View Full Version : Form Or Function?
Simple enough question. Of course there are hundreds of examples you could give for times you'd choose one side and times you'd choose the other, but IN GENERAL, which do you favor?
Are you a "I don't care how it looks I care how well it works" kind of person or an "it doesn't matter what I'm doing as long as I look good doing it" type?

No, thinking about which car to buy next.

I really think that form is huge for me if I do not know the purpose. But if it is something I understand than I rarely give a shit.

C'mon, everybody knows that form follows function.
Unless you're one of those post-Modernist weirdos.
And you don't want to be a post-Modernist weirdo, do you?

Function, speaking as a car nut, and future engineer. What cars are you currently looking at?

All of them, and none are absolutely enthralling me.
Right now, my biggest concern is really comfortable seats. I want to do take some long drives and my current vehicle (a 2007 Hyundai Sonata) is nice enough, but completely lacks thigh support. Do a 10 or 12 hour ride in it and you start getting dead leg.
Besides, I drive an E-250 all week for work.
I want to pamper myself.

The Nissan Murano has some damn comfy seats.

Great question.
Function. In every aspect.
Because when the shit goes down, will you be able to survive?
Or will a zombie be eating your nice shoes?

being pretty is a good thing, but I guess I'd still fuck it as long as the genitalia was still working.

If we're talking about our next transportation vehicles, I'd like either of these:

i can't help it; i like pretty things. i like to look at pretty things...i'd rather have a house full of interesting objets d'art than vacuum cleaners and shit.
i'd rather wear something that maybe isn't the most practical but looks good and makes me feel super feminine. i'd rather wear heels than flip flops. i'd rather wear a pencil skirt than sweats.
i'd rather receive a necklace as a gift than a lawnmower.
If you can't get the job done looking good then you fail.

Mostly function, this is my ride, I'm getting roughly 75 MPG, maybe more, I'm too lazy to do the actual math.

I can walk you through making your choice but there are some questions I have first.
Are you looking for:
luxury?
sporty?
sport luxury combo?
FWD, RWD or AWD?
manual, sequential tip-tronic or auto?
coupe or sedan?
2 or 4 seat?
hardtop, convertible, hard convertible?
fuel consumption?
price range?
Believe me I probably have more but I'll save them for now.

You CAN have it both ways you know.

No, thinking about which car to buy next.
my car buying usually goes by what I need it for, how long I plan on keeping it and how reliable it will be... warranties, gas mileage, passenger and trunk space...and budget
if I would go by looks I would be driving a mini cooper.
