looking at the kids thread this must be the reflection from the back passenger side of your car, looks like that was so clean that it had some very strong reflections

I actually figured thats what it was before I saw the answer. I have been reading about detailing cars the past few days because im interesting in putting some wax on my (new) car. It'd be cool to see a before photo

i can do that.
It would only be before after wash and then after SwirlX and black polish though.
Not a completely before and after. but imagine any black nasty car you see out there.
i have always done my car by hand as well.
And are you interested in waxing or polishing.

well I was trying to figure out the difference between waxing and polishiing. my car is only a few months old (and black) so i want to keep it looking like new. would wax suffice?

I would wax it. Polishing is abrasive. The dealers usually recommend waiting a while anyway. When I had my fender painted, the body sop suggested waiting 2 months before putting any wax on it. I guess the paint need to fully set?

How about a train ticket to Buffalo? Does that earn a full car detailing?

polishing COMPOUND will have small abrasives.
some higher end POLISHES go over the wax and brings more shine into the car.
i believe Zaino makes some.
Then go buy some of the megiaurs hydro(something) detailer. In a black bottle that is a bit goofy looking. It will help you wax stay in good condition on your car.

Dealers usually have the cars long enough that its not a problem.
Body shops on the oher hand tell you not to becuase the paint is still soft from all the thinner and hardneres still doing their work. Even after baking.

it could. what is there to do up there?
Edit:
Its also the towels and things you use when detailing that you have to pay very close attention to. They will cuase the biggest problems. Terry clothes for applying wax. Microfiber for everything else. You can spend a bit more and get microfiber for applying the wax as well. Then when you wash them make sure you wash them by themselves no bleach or fabric softener. It will make teh fiber hard and they WILL swirl your car.
edit2: Simple Green is your friend.
