View Full Version : Uncooked chicken in the fridge
Bought some chicken drums and thighs late monday afternoon and put them in the frigde. I was going to freeze and cook them tonight is that still a safe amount of time
Just throw some BBQ sauce on them they will be fine, you won't even need to cook them.

Wash it down with a warm cup of apple juice.

Just check the sell by date on the package. Doesn't matter if they sit refrigerated at the store or at your house. As long as the sell by date is still good, you're good to go.

Little known fact: barbecue sauce can be used as an antiseptic.

Cook them for guests so just in case they're bad, you won't be the one sitting on the bowl for a day.

I've witnessed Jeff eat chicken left in fridge for over a week, but then again, he vomits a lot, so he might not be the best example.
Does it smell bad?

Funny you started this thread, I had the same issue last night. Bought some chicken on Sunday, had it sitting in my fridge till last night... all week I kept wanting to cook it, but I was putting it off and putting it off. Cooked it last night and it smelled/tasted a little funky, but because I didn't want to waste food and I'm broke, I ate it anyway... I was kinda worried that I was gonna wake up in the middle of the night and start violently puking, but I never did. So if my body managed to successfully digest the semi-rancid chicken, you should be fine.

I read somewhere that meat can be stored in the fridge for 5 days. Your fine.

It all depends on smell. Sometimes things go bad before the expiration date. If it smells rancid then chuck it, if it smells fine then you're good to go.

I've read that too but I also go by the sell by date as styckx pointed out.

Dave says if you put salt on it, it's fine.
Turned out fine. Smelled fine and the sell by was the 24th
