When I was 10 years old, my best friend Tony died at the age of 11 from lukemia. I STILL think of him everyday. He taught me how to use a sled when I was 4 years old.

I heard that it was actually the Whalers' fault, and the kids were obeying the rules - that legit?

Wow, so the other guy is 55 and him & his father own some boat place in Brielle? Not sure how true that is, just happen to read what someone wrote somewhere else.

How badly injured are the girls in critical condition? Is it recoverable or something like paralysis?

As a heads up, don't read the comments on NJ.com. The idiots are out in full force. When the story first broke last night, it listed them as "teenagers" - which is why I was wondering how snoogs knew them.

The story updated to kids in their 20's, which made more sense - but of course, the comment hounds on NJ.com are blaming the kids for being drunk.

At 7:40.

On a Friday.

the kid who died was either 23 or 24, he was a soph when i was a sr, same with the 2 girls who were trapped on the boat under shit, and the kid driving the boat, the 2 girls brother, was a freshman was i was a sr. I knew them all from after HS cause the kid who died was good friends with a friend of mine. I saw him every few weeks at parties and shit. Im having somewhat of a tough time with it.

The saddest part to me is, the kid who died's best friend had his brother die at 24years old 9 months ago in a motorcycle accident. So in 9 months he lost his 24 year old brother and his 23 year old best friend and neither did anything wrong.

the kid driving had both feet broke and his arms cut up, not sure to what extent, by the whaler's prop. The 2 girls are critical but should survive at least. The other 2 who were throw from the boat and lived had bad cuts and some broken bones but are otherwise ok. And the one other kid died cause he was knocked out when he was thrown into the water and he drown.

Less than a year after I graduated a kid from my class OD'd while doing heroin. He was a good guy too. He loved pot, but he said he wasn't going to do anything harder than that. Guess he lied.

I know it's different since the people you know had done nothing wrong, but it does suck having someone die so young.

Ive been to WAY too many viewing for being 33 years old. Sadly, alot of which were from drugs.

For a long time people thought my high school was cursed because every memorial day weekend or senior week a couple kids would die. The year I graduated we had 6 kids die in 2 weeks right before graduation, all from car accidents.

Same here, I'm a little older, but still have been to much too many. Like you said, mostly drugs, but also a few suicides that were most likely due to drug related issues.

When i was 16 a friend died just after school started up for that year but she had been battling cancer since we were young. Even still.

Middletown HS North should be examined for the mortality rate amongst their students. Every year at least 4 kids die.

thats why this one has me so fucked up. I know kids who have died over drugs and crimes and gone to jail for long times, but that was always them doing something where that was part of the risk. This was just a few kids enjoyin a nice day on a boat, following rules and all, and just boom. Over. Just has a little extra weight to me cause of the innocence of the people. Not that they were angels, i just mean in this instance.

Is it wrong that I feel worse for people who werent doin something wrong than someone who was and got unlucky?

Forget the circumstances....

Im sorry for your loss. No time is ever a good time in loved ones eyes to be taken from this earth.

My prayers go out to you, your fiends family, and all those touched by the sadness this terrible accident has brought upon society.
