what exactly is a "gay voice"? can someone's voice be attracted to another voice? why can't it just be Fez's voice?

After listening to Friday's show, when they played the bit from 2003, I think he's got a more flamboyant tone.

I think Fez sounds great. I would hate a world with all men sounding like James Earl Jones

He sounds pretty gay. But if you listen to the old stuff, it seems like he put on more of a gay voice then than he does now.

Who cares how his voice sounds? As long as he brings the funny he can talk in a Harvey Fierstein register if thats what he wants to do.

the first time i heard fez was in grand theft auto 4. i think he sounds less "gay" now than then.
I can vividly recall stumbling across the old "Ron and Fez dot com" show back in the day and hearing Fez's voice for the first time.
It moved.

He only sounds gay when he cries on the air like a little girl.

I've emailed Ron a few times because I think it would make a good on air topic, but he has not yet responded.
My question is this:
Why do gay people take on a fruity voice? Why do they develop a lisp? I not trying to be homophobic, I think it is a legitamite question.

google gay speech patterns and you'll see everything from university research to "politically-correct" denials to wikipedia articles on the subject. it could be a way to identify themselves to other gays, or a subconscious mimicking of stereotypical female speech. but for better or worse, this is the kind of question that many people find "offensive" (whatever that means) to merely ask.

No, it's not. It just happens. You have plenty of straight people that "sound gay" and plenty of gay people who don't talk like that.

You saying that has no bearing. What we are asking is "what is the reasoning for this?" and for scientific or psychological support and/or denial on the reasoning.

Oh, I'm not denying there could be acutal reasons for it. I just think it's silly for someone to claim that it's some kind of hot button issue people get worked up over. It's not. It's just how people talk.

do some googling, and reading, about the subject, and you'll see there's been a lot of research into it. your dismissal of the subject, and also the discussion of the subject, is just stifling an honest question.

his voice is way gayer in the old days. when they went to XM, ron completely changed the show, so fez dropped the gay gimmick (along with all humor). now he's completely lost without it. he's trying to bring it back, but it comes across as contrived.

What I dismissed was your assertion that it's a topic that tons of people get angry or defensive over. I don't really care if people want to research into it or want to know why people have different "voices;" that's no different than the scores of other sociological and biological studies into the why's of human behavior.

but mojo, i didn't say tons feel that way. i searched for the exact query i gave, and summarized the first 5 results to illustrate the range of discussions. the editorializing i did do was to say that there are many who try to stigmatize certain topics, usually under the guise of "political correctness", and probably out of a well-meaning attempt to avoid "stereotypes" (which we have been programmed to extinguish whenever presented), when in fact an open discussion is the best way to understanding.

It just seems like uncessary hand-wringing over the boogeyman of "PC." There's not a noticeably push to figure out why some people "sound gay;" there's even less people who are going to give a shit if there was and it's a non-issue to begin with. Who needs to figure out why someone "sounds gay" for "understanding?" "Understanding" a person typically means looking beyond superficial things like their voice.

You would have done well in the middle ages, burning books and what not. It's just scientific inquiry for the sake of curiousity. It's just wanting to know more. Would you rather we be Bible thumpers saying we don't need to know why because we have faith or because "god said"?

Wow. That was impressive.
It should be pretty clear that when I say "who cares" that I'm referring to the idea that anyone gets worked up over the idea of somebody studying why some people "some guy." I really don't give a shit who is looking into it. If they find out why, nothing changes. If they don't, doesn't make a difference. We don't NEED to know why someone sounds a certain way just to better "understand" them as a person.
