yeah when i heard that this morning, I was speechless...

...but then again I was in the car alone, so it's not like I'd be chatting it up, but y'know..

I guess it's fair to say I was shocked.. yes definitely shocked.

Am I the only one getting sick and tired of every time they start in with this "We're raising a generation of pussies" bullshit. Guess who said the same thing? EVERY SINGLE OTHER MOTHERFUCKER WHO EVER REACHED YOUR AGE. Somehow we manage to survive despite every single single subsequent generation becoming bigger and bigger pussies. Way to sound like your fathers. And way to cry out as the world starts to pass you by.

I'm glad it at least led into Jimmy's great stories today.

some boy used to pee in his mouth and he was forced into giving oral sex to a bully as a kid.

How revealing is that? I expected it.

But I think it is probably more true now than ever. You can't spank your kids without people calling you a child abuser, schools can't use corporal punishment, youth sports don't teach kids about winning and losing, kids have to be in car seats and use bike helmets, and the examples go on and on.

I'm still trying to figure out how to "toughen up" my child while still being a loving father. None of the "tricks" used on me are seen as viable anymore.

You fell asleep next to the pod.

I won't pretend to be an expert on how to raise your kids since I don't have any. However this whole youth sports thing is an empty issue. I played baseball and soccer as a youth competitively. You know what I learned? What offsides is, hot to kick a ball, how to shag fly balls, how to field grounders, what the strike zone is, how to slide and the coach and his kid are always dickbags. Nothing else. It doesn't matter.

But if you are insistent that kids today needs competition don't worry because they are getting it. Just peek in on XBox Live or PSN. There is not only competition and teamwork but a healthy primer on every ethnic slur that exists. It's everyone's childhood in a different form.

I agree to a point, but also disagree. Sports is not the big issue - I had much the same experience except I always wanted to try to win to please my Dad. Although the BIGGEST things were playing by the rules, trying my hardest, and not being a showoff, there was also a focus on both winning and losing gracefully. I still carry those sensibilities and apply them to most aspects of my life.

I am primarily averse to the "everybody wins" philosophy because it just isn't practical in real life. Working in and with a team is important, but there are always winners and losers. The important point is to learn from both and meet them with grace.

However, I will admit that a lot of it is my own fear about what is coming. My child is only 4 years old so we haven't really run into too much of it yet, but I am kind of stuck trying to figure out what to do when it becomes an issue.

OK, it was a little odd that Helio Castroneves was crying after winning the Indy 500 for a 3rd time, but he has had a pretty emotional couple of months. He was just cleared of some major Tax Evasion charges, the trial for which had kept him out of racing for months.

To come back and win a race as big as the Indy 500 after that kind of downtime is a pretty big deal, especially when added to the emotional roller coaster he had been on trying to clear his name, avoid substantial jail time, and maintain his sponsorships & career.

Is Jimmy really calling Plant a homo when he admitted to sucking 10 dicks when he was younger?

He just hates that Zep got all the publicity and sabbath was related to the background because tommy was a bitch to everyone.

When I went to NYC, I couldn't believe that people actually drove through Times Square. It needed to be closed to traffic. There's so many ways to drive around Times Square, as soon as people get used to it, traffic will be fine.

It's from 30 Rock, a character Paul Rubens played. I don't watch the show (yet) but I heard them mention it sometime today.

Here's the clip: http://bradthomas.wordpress.com/2007/06/08/video-30-rock-paul-reubens-as-gerhardt-hapsburg/

It is the worst!

I think Anthony said it today, but I think Billy Crystal's best, most entertaining stuff was on Soap. He had some moments on SNL, but I have not been a fan of much of his stuff.

For me it started and ended with his bit-part in Spinal Tap. Not a big fan.
