For the same reasons anyone does something as a joke. To gain attention. Alot of things that don't work in the past, find a niche in the future. This was repackaged as a "serious audition tape" gimmick. And it worked!

OK well let's think about this logically.

It COULD be a joke of course. If anyone back then had a video camera it would probably be a theater company or some other professional A/V place. An actor would be hooked up with people like that and could just cut a quick 5 minute joke for his friends.

Plus the acting is SO fucking horrific and over the top, for his sake I hope it's a joke.

I just have this really bad feeling this guy is so self important and corny he did this as a serious piece to try to set himself apart from other actors and get Mr. Kubrick's attention. Plus as I said, I think this might have been considered classical acting, at least partially, back in some horrible era of theater.

It's over 25 years later. Maybe he thought the R&F show wasn't the right platform for him(He seems pretty corny, and a "think on your feet" radio show with three funny guys wouldn't be the place for an unfunny cornball"). Hence he's putting up more and more videos on youtube(showing further that this is all about attention).

When people first fell for this, I kinda understood because it was an "in the moment" scenario that they thought was funny in a pathetic way. But for people to be still falling for this is getting kinda sad. It's kinda like when your uncle first started molesting you. At first you can lie to yourself and say "His hand just slipped, and nothing really happened".
