*commencing Blowhard rant*

I was out picking up a few things and I ended up going in four or five different retailers, and everytime I go to pay, they ask me if I have their "rewards...access....store.." or whatever the want to call it card.

Ok, fair enough...I get that all the stores have been doing this forever, that there's certain percentage of business they get from it...fine.

So I always tell them no, I don't want it.

That should be it...end of conversation.

But I've noticed more and more that these douchebag retailers are making their cashiers give you a telemarketer sales pitch. "Well, if you get the card you get this..."

"No I don't want"

"Well, if you purchase this much stuff, you can potentially get..."

"No I don't want it!!!"

I don't blame the poor saps that have to do this...they're just doing what they're forced to do. But seriously...why can't I just pay for my shit and leave? Are they trying to drive me to shop exclusively online?

Oh, and speaking of telemarketers...yeah we're all on the Do Not Call Registry...but that doesn't include groups like the Fraternal Order of Police from calling and asking for money.

Ok, again...I get it...the cops want some money to help their fellow cops. I usually ask them to send a mailer or something, and maybe I'll send them a little bit.

But they're even getting fucking pushy. Last time they called, asking for a DONATION, and I asked them to send me out a mailer, the guy started basically berating me on the phone about how dare I ask them to put the time and and effort into mailing out a fucking postcard with their charity info on it.

They're not the only charity that's doing it, either...that's just the freshest in my mind.

I'm am fucking sick of people trying to pressure me into getting their shit, or giving them my money with the attitude that I owe THEM!

And I try to be nice about it...I try to be cordial, and they get more pushy. Guess I'm going to have to start being a raging prick to all these different people.

Employees are forced to push these cards because the companies they work for turn around and sell your information to the highest bidder. It's no longer enough to get money for providing a service to your customers, now it's about making money off of being intrusive into people's buying habits. I understand the need for marketing research but it is getting ridiculous. I don't mind it so much at places like Petco and DSW since they send me discount coupons (and Petco gives me a free bag of cat food every year, can't beat that!). But the rest can pretty much DIAF. I get enough junk mail as it is.

My grandmother used to keep a whistle by her phone...

Holy shit, my mom's aunt used to do the same thing, but with hotbreathers (I don't think people do this anymore with the advent of caller ID). My dad had to call her to check on her once, and the phones weren't working right so she couldn't hear my dad speaking and she blew the whistle into the phone. My father was not happy.

always check give.org to see if a charity is legit. A lot of those psuedo-FOP type outfits only give like 10-20% of the donation to what you think you're giving to. Sorry, that prolly made you even angrier.

I hate those kids who sit outside the deli and ask me if I want to give money to this or that charity. I mean atleast get a gimmick or something, play guitar, walk a tightrope..........

I hate the stupid reward cards that they give you at the grocery store. Thank god I always use my parents address so that all the flyers and junkmail go to them.

Yeah, I hate those cards too. I don't see why every time I spend $50 they have to give me $5 off my next order. I don't need your charity. I hate saving that $5, too. I'm just gonna spend it elsewhere. And don't get me started on the customized coupons for shit I actually buy!! A free Turkey at Thanksgiving ... Fuck You, Guys!

my key chain is loaded with all those plastic thingys from my local grocery stores and drug stores, and hardware stores. it bothers me that i can't get the sale price if i don't have those annoying things. then to add to the confusion, they give you a second one and when they scan that, they give a percentage to the local schools. i feel like i'm holding up the line, then i look behind me and everyone else is fiddling with their key chains too. it's annoying as hell.

I screen my calls and 99% of the time they hang up. If I am on line and they ask me for the reward card, I say I have one already, just not on me. If they offer to look it up, I give them a fake number, and if they have trouble, I say "look, I know there is a line of people waiting, its no big deal" and that usually shuts them up. I think the cashiers get more money for signing people up. I hate spending more time in line to pay for my shit than it took me to shop! You go into Target and they have 200 registers and 3 of them are open and there is 50 people in line!

I'm wondering how long it took for Mikey to write "Knock it off, last warning" before he stopped.
