7. Dave Attell
6. Patton Oswalt
5. Sarah Silverman
4. Dane Cook

I'm not a fan of his, but in terms of influential, LCG should be higher. I credit him to really putting that blue collar comedy over the top.

did any of those 'so called' comedians ever give up on pants?
no
My only real issue would be the inclusion of Doug Stanhope and not David Cross.

I agree, I don't know what he actually influenced. He's not widely known or popular. Or in my opinion very funny. Just a wacky druggy, but they all are.

I love Dane Cook's standup. I haven't seen anything by Dave Chappelle other than his show and same thing with Dave Attell.

I've never really understood the appeal of Stanhope and when I hear his fans compare him to Bill Hicks, I really cringe.

i think anyone would say Norton is better than 3/4ths of the "King of Comedy" guys (DL Hughley is the exception)
what did Cedric the Entertainer ever influence? How to mumble a sentence, do a funny dance and repeat

It's not a top 10 funny. It's a top 10 influential list. Like some of these people or not, yes, most have a huge influence on other comedians.
The other change I would recommend would be to make #8 the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, rather than just Larry. (They did it for the Original Kings of Comedy, come on!)

The list maker was very clear that they spawned all the shitty tours, that why they're there. He's right.
Individually, toss steve harvey obviously, Cedric was kind of funny doin his thing, Hugely is funny but not influential, but Norton is nowhere near as influential as Bernie Mac was in the early 90's.
But this is about influence in the 2000's and Norton would have been mentioned if Attell didn't exist. The author was right in mentioning Norton and giving the spot to Attell, CK filled out the last cringe spot. Those 2 are giants in that realm.

even if its the wrong thread, you really think Richard Jeni deserves to be on that list? Over Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy, and Jerry Seinfeld?

I think its a decent list.
I do, however, think its retarded to name the most influential ___________ of a decade when said decade isn't even done. I believe influence intrinsically takes some modicum of time.

This probably won't go over well, but how about Artie Lange? Between his shows and movies, stand-up, and the Stern show, I'd say he's made an impact.
Chris Rock stopped being influential this decade I guess.

i think its to early to tell who will be most influential yet,
i like dane cook; but you can see the Regan and Ck influences. so, can all 3 be in the same list.
styx list realy reads more like a favorites list than a most influential.

David Cross should definitely be on there...so should Bill Maher (whether you like his politics or not).

I think both of those guys are really influential, but I don't know if they ever reached a big audience with their standup as much as with their television work. I've honestly never seen a David Cross standup on television and have only heard one of his CDs. His contributions to Mr. Show, Arrested Development, and Wonder Showzen are what makes him influential to me. The same goes for Jon Stewart - hugely influential in comedy, but not necessarily from his standup.

i see # 2 but thats really 4 comics.... which would make it a top 13 list.

That's what he is on his show, but if you see his stand-up, he's a comic.

i saw bill maher do stand up at the ol' Westbury Music Fair and it was one of the best stand up acts i've seen live. It was hilarious..people walked out offended...and it wasn't all about politics
Maher has had many hour long stand up comedy specials on HBO. Shit, in the 80s he was even on the Tonight show doing stand up all the time. Hes as "stand up comedian" as you can possibly get.
It would be like saying "Seinfeld isn't a stand up comedian he's a sitcom actor"
David Cross is my favorite stand up but if they are doing influence on kinds of comedy i can respect giving that spot to Patton Oswalt...he's more of the face of that whole thing

But is his stand up from this decade influential?
But is his stand up from this decade influential?
I'd say so. Not as influential as Lewis Black (both are similar...they took the observational/political comedy that was 'alternative' comedy in the 90s and angried it up), but between his HBO stand-up specials, and all the live dates he still does per year, Bill Maher is a pretty big draw.

if its influencial comics of the 00s, they do need some kind of political anti-bush face because that was a big part of 2000s comedy. I would give it to Lewis Black b/c Jon Stewart wasn't doing stand up...Lewis Black had a ton of stand up specials and cds during the 00s

That was my thought on it.
I was originally going to throw Jon Stewart in there, but does he even do stand up dates anymore?
Plus, he's a guy who wasn't nearly that big as a stand-up. The Daily Show made him (and he made it).
The person who pointed out something similar about David Cross...I disagree. David Cross had a very substantial stand-up career and has quite a few albums out as well. While he's huge for Mr. Show, I'd say he's equally as big for his stand-up.
If you spent any time in a college dorm complex in the last decade, you'd notice a lot of David Cross albums floating around.

i only picked stewart because he influenced comedy in the '00's
he (or give credit to the show) has brought stardom to more comics than, lets say, patton oswald

yeah but the list is most influential stand-up
if it was most influential in comedy in the 00s, of course the list would be completely different. It would have Apatow and Stewart, i'd still say Trey & Matt...Borat would get the reality comedy stuff over the Jackass guys cuz he is more critic friendly....yeah a list of influential comedy of the 00s is way different

And here's something else about Cross: he went around doing an act that viciously attacked Bush after 9/11 (a tour chronicled on the "Shut Up You Fucking Baby" double CD) at a time when other comics were pissing their pants with fear about saying anything critical of Bush or the war or 9/11. So I think he kind of threw down the gauntlet to comics, telling them "Look, you know this guy is a stupid douche, and 9/11 didn't turn him into a genius. Call his shit out."
It was an act of comic bravery. And it culminated in this absolutely brilliant bit:

this is a bit from a cd casey recommended called "Invite them Up" with a bunch of alternative comics at a club. Anyway, its H. Jon Benjamin and David Cross doing a bit where Cross is playing an OBGYN. I have no idea if its entirely improv-ed or, i assume, a few bits written but a lot of improv-ed..either way i consider it the funniest recorded live comedy act i have ever heard. Flat out brilliant
