Should I do it?

Please don't buy it out from under me.

Epiphones are amazing guitars. My SG sounds just as good, if not better, than a Gibson and it's a fraction of the price.

You should check out a brand new Epiphone Les Paul if you're really interested. Guitar Center regularly puts them on sale and for not much more than what that dude on eBay is asking for a used one.

A good friend of mine and great player bought that as his first "new" guitar purchase and he still has it and loves it.

This exact guitar or an Epiphone Les Paul in general?

Epiphone Les Paul in birds eye maple. The year was probably 95 -96. Sorry that I can't be more specific.

It is gorgeous. I love the birds eye maple.

Try playing bass. Its much more satisfying and it makes the ladies wet.

What about the tuners on this one? They look kinda cheap to me and not as nice as the chrome circular ones on the newer LPs.

STAY ON TOPIC!

Doesn't seem to work for Jersey Rich.

I hate the look of those guitars but lots of people talk about how great they are.

Ask for some more pics of the guitar, get the back and ask to see the electronics if he is willing to remove the little hatch on the back. Then insure it when it gets shipped.

I wouldn't buy anything I didnt get a chance to actually physically hold, play, and inspect. But thats just me. A lot could be wrong with this thing you cant see from the picture.

Holy shit I bought it for $307. I love it when people end their auctions late at night when no one is around to compete.

If you didn't end up winning the listing, you may want to check out Rondo Music - they make some really decent quality guitars for very, very cheap (bookmatched maple flame top sunburst) with decent hardware and top quality fit/finish. It was their "Agile" model which was a LP knockoff. I think it ran me about $300 + shipping. The pickups were weak, but are easily changed out (or wax potted.)

They generally get really high user reviews.

Edit: Saw you won it - congrats!

Congrats on the purchase!

Now I just need a nice small amp to play it through. I had a small Marshall a few years ago that I sold. Something with two channels preferably that won't alarm the neighbors. Probably won't spend more than a couple hundred.

Any suggestions?

I've never played through one, but I've read good things about this one:

VOX VT-30:

My choice would be the Epiphone Valve Jr. Only 5 watts and 1 channel, but it's a class-A tube amp. You can always add an Overdrive/Distortion pedal in front on it at a later date. I own one, and it's really fun to play through.

Best advice is to hit Guitar center and grab an Epiphone off the wall and play through as many as possible. See what works for you. I've learned recently that the amp is way more important than the guitar when it comes to tone.

Good Luck!

+1 to Epi Valve Junior. A lot of bang and good tone for relatively little money. loud enough for small club stages unless you are playing very heavy stuff.

+1 to Agiles as well. I own a 3100 series that is better the LP Studios, though not quite as good as a standard LP. but it is about 25% of the price as well.

You can probably buy a used Peavy cheap. They hold little resale value but you can get a bigger badder amp for cheap money
