I know New Yorks bat population got nailed w/ this problem, and others from reading the article. Love em or hate them. No bats, more mosquitos, gnats, and other annoying flying insects.

So, what, 2 people will die from it this year instead of 7?

Experts also expect a steep increase in penguin crimes this summer.

I've been following this story for quite some time, being a bit of a bat aficionado.

It could wreak havoc with our ecological system. A small brown bat eats about 600 mosquitos per hour. Without them the insect population will be out of control.

You know mosquitoes breed in any body of standing water right? ponds, lakes, puddles, water that gathered in an ashtray one night, kids inflatable pools, rain water that gather in the back of your kids toy dump truck and sat untouched for a few days etc etc etc

A few years back, the Hackensack River keeper set up hundreds of bat houses along the river. A great, Natal way to keep the insect population in check.
It will be a shame to see all of those Vacancy signs up.

I like the lil creatures and hope that it does not affect our bats, the mosquito problem alone would hurt.

Most of you don't even realize how bad this is.

How bad is it?

What's worse on the mosquito front is, I heard on the news yesterday that mosquitoes will be particularly bad this year due to all of the early rain. More mosquitoes + less bats = MANY MANY MORE mosquitoes!

These bats were your last line of defense from future Pirate/Shark attacks.

So long east coast...you are doomed!

Mosquitos across the garden state are happy about this development.
