Pretty self explanatory. Someone who blew you away in their first role, but haven't done shit sense. Or someone who you can tell is good at what they do, but are a sellout and refuse to make something artistic. Flashes of greatness but no payoff.
It's why I hate Kate Hudson so bad. She was great as Penny Lane in Almost Famous. The character had sex appeal and she actually showed some depth. And ever since, she has taken a big shit on the craft. She hasn't done one thing that takes any talent.

Quentin Tarantino easily.
A few good movies, but much more garbage. Thanks Quentin, but I really don't need another film gimmick, shitty musical choice, pop culture reference or long speech in a movie that sounds NOTHING LIKE REAL PEOPLE TALK.
Fuck off.

See, I was gonna say him. But its like Ron said the other day, he did make one of the 100 best movies ever. And Unbreakable is pretty fun. At least he gets an idea and tries. Fails miserably lately, but he tries to be artistic.

You have to admit that Clerks was pretty good.
His original trilogy were three very good movies, but every single thing since has been utter dreck.

if you really go back to that first Dane Cook half hour Comedy Central special...the one where he does the bit about racist writing on bathroom stalls, that was pretty good
wow did it go downhill
even someone like Jennifer Lopez...people forget that she was actually considered a good, legitimate promsiing young actress. Same with Vin Diesel when he first broke onto the scene (with "Saving Private Ryan" and "Pitch Black" right on top of eachother). Both of those could be considered the worst of the worst today

He's still 10x the director of a Brett Ratner or Mc G. He tries to have artistic value to his flicks, and he's succeeded greatly a couple times.

Actually, Vin Diesel was one who spurred me to make this topic. I was watching SPR and he's not in it that long, but he's pretty good in it. I'll even give him Boiler Room and Fast and Furious for being good at what he was supposed to be good at.
Then he started doing The Pacifier and XXX and shit. Made a ton of money but god he lost all credibility. Maybe the name should have been a hint from day 1.

Right but he made one of the best films ever and another really good one. And another that was not bad until the ending. If he did The Village after 6th Sense, them I'm in.

i think the biggest one has to be Eddie Murphy. Its been so long since hes done anything good. I think he really has the potential to be a great actor too, the characters he can do is amazing..but he keeps putting out such embarrassing shit
and i saw him on "Inside the Actor Studio" and he couldn't give less of a shit about the craft of acting or anything. He just gives a shit about the paycheck
and the fact that he has this unbelievable stand up talent where he is considered one of the best of all time and he has no interest in pursuing it or doing anything with it anymore, its just so sad to me

Nicholas Cage.
Somewhere along the way, he just said to himself "Fuck it, I wanna get paid", and just started taking one shitty action movie after another.
It's almost hard to remember that he started out in quirky, unusual, interesting roles like H.I. in Raising Arizona or Sailor in Wild at Heart. Where did that guy go?

For a while, at least he tried to do both. Like Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, Matchstick Men with Con Air, 8MM and various shit in the middle broken up. Then, like 6 years ago, he just said fuck it. It's shit from here on out.

If by "artistic value" you mean a stream of dick jokes, then you are absolutely right. Kevin Smith is a one-trick pony who has no desire to stop doing the trick.

Ronnie made a great point about QT: he seems to be going backwards as a director. His first few movies (I'd throw in Jackie Brown too), he does seem to be making real quality films, with great characters and real emotional heft, but over time, it just becomes an exercise in genre wankery, QT indulging himself.
The new one doesn't look to reverse the trend, I'm afraid.

I saw Jackie Brown in the theaters on Christmas day.
Vin Diesel just wanted to get enough dough so that he could have the interior of his car redesigned and configured so that he could play D&D while driving.
Thora Birch and Gabby Hoffman went nowhere fast. Thora had a big stride and then fell off fast, i guess that's what you get when youre pushed by parents who starred in Deep Throat.

But I worry that the sort of perplexed, "what is this?" reaction it got probably told Tarantino he should just stick to making copies of obscure genre movies.

Thora Birch I believe is one of the patients on HBO's In Treatment, so she may be on the road to "recovery"

All the Munchkins in The Wizard of OZ...
WTF happened???
They danced, they sang, they were freakishly small, yet enormously memorable.
They had the WORLD by the balls... (the ones who could reach that high...)
and then POOF...
nothing...

I think that Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Jackie Brown are about as brilliant a trio of movies as any director anywhere has made. I'd put it up there with Kubricks' trio of Dr. Strangelove, 2001, and A Clockwork Orange. Or Hitchcock's trio of Vertigo, North by Northwest, and Psycho.
But, yeah, since then, he's pretty much completely given in to self-indulgence.

I wouldn't put 2001 in Kubrick's top 3. Good movie, but not as good as The Shining or Full Metal Jacket.
Would you put Tarantino's best 3 up against Coen Brother's best 3? Woody Allen? Scorcese? Wes Anderson?

Most disappointing actor/actress/filmmaker
Im going out on a limb here. "Disappointing actor" immediately makes me think of Mr. Frank Whaley

This guy has been in movies since the late 80s and never could I say he did anything that memorable. He was Brett in Pulp Fiction ("That is a tasty burger"), Boy in The Little Monsters (my personal favorite role), and I saw him in The Pursuit of Happiness where I would say he basically plays himself as an average guy. He was also in Career Opportunities which I never saw. He has basically played supporting roles his entire career and all his leads sucked....... damn shame
