I feel for you. In my opinion those 2 words are the biggest problem this country has. Anything that was ever good turns to complete shit once they go corporate.

When I worked for Circuit City their entire training was done on some in house e-learning site they had. It was fucking awful and dreadfully boring.

That's exactly what it is. It gives you different scenarious and then you have to take quizzes on what you just learned.

exhibit A: my job. i work for a non profit foster care agency that decided to impliment corporate practices here (electronic timesheets that say why you were out so they can keep track, firing the dentist because they thought it would be more cost effective to farm the kids out for dental care[it wasnt btw. costs have tripled])

the quality of this agency has gone downhill. we were the #1 rated foster care agency in the city in terms of service and client care. our numbers have been slipping down hill since the "caring"/ human element of the administration has been gutted. they fired about 30 social workers and direct care staff because they werent in the budget but hired 14 new accountants, then wonder why our numbers went down, our employee turnover is high and everyone is disgruntled.

Ive seen that so many times. I worked for Dave & Busters in Philly for 10 years. The first few years it had 2 owners...Dave & Buster. They had 5 stores and ran them like a mom and pop restaurant. If you were there a year you got health benefits and a week vacation. 2 years - 2 weeks vacation. 5 years - 3 weeks vacation. Cash bonuses every Xmas. Ive never seen such a huge place have so many loyal workers that would do anything to help out the company.

Then they went public. Beginning of the end. The cash bonuses stopped. Replaced with gift certificates to their stores. Then the vacations dissapeared. Instead you would earn vacation time as you worked. With 40 hours a week getting you roughly 9 days vacation time (anyone that works in the bar business can tell you its RARE you ever work 40 hours a week) Then they slowly started firing all the employees that had been there for awhile. Replacing them with new incompetant shmucks in order to save a few bucks on payroll.

7 years later the company is bleeding money, their employees arent just disgruntled, they LOATHE the place, and it went from a fun place to work to a complete shithole. Most of the people I know that work for them, and I know alot, wouldnt piss on the building if it was on fire.

Sounds like most every job I've ever had, especially my current one, except the reason for our turn over rate is more politics than upper management. I work with a few quiet vultures (some loud ones too) who peck and peck and peck when no one is looking until they almost force a person to transfer or quit. It's quite disgusting.

We have TONS of required online crap.

There's the sexual harassment course (which is just a bunch of still-shots that you can work through faster if you lie and tell them you have a dialup connection) ... and there's the corporate ethics course ... and there's the upcoming company security course ... and the two days we were forced to spend training in "creative thinking" and "project management" (I was out sick on the "creative thinking" course day ... and then submitted an idea to corporate that was used as a "perfect" example of thinking creatively - HA!) ... and the weekly "webinars" with corporate muckety-mucks ... OK, so those aren't required, but they're certainly encouraged.

I am already pissed at the company; I don't need more of a reason to bitch.
