Their intentions were made clear when the new movies were announced, but no further mention was made since then. Today, Comedy Central has made our dreams come true: 13 new episodes of "Futurama" have been ordered, according to an all-too-short report from AICN (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41329). That noise you hear is worldwide shouts of joy.
deja vu. :D
ITS STILL A RUMOR!!!! last time they said it was back it took a good year for contracts to be signed lol
i will do my dance of pure joy when it really gets announced.

Yeah, but now it's coming after they actually did put out new content with the movies.
This would be awesome. The movies were OK, but it works much better as a half hour show.

If only this was true. I still hold out hope, but so far no go.
I thought the first and last movie were very good, the middle two kinda eh. The last one actually felt like a movie as opposed to the previous 3 which very obviously felt like 4 episodes pieced together.

But isn't that true of any full-length movie based on an animated show? South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut definitely dragged, and the Simpsons movie just bored me.

I thought it would take the end of the Simpsons for it to come back. I heard that the same folks wrote the shows so one had to end.
But with the end of the King of the Hill maybe this might fly who knows.
One can only hope.

June 9, 2009 - You just can't stop Futurama. A day after news broke that the show looked to be coming back, Comedy Central has made it official, announcing they have picked up the series for an impressive 26 new episodes – thirteen more than originally expected.
As Comedy Central notes, this will mark the first true new episodes of the show in six years – though the four recent, straight-to-DVD Futurama movies were re-cut into 22 minute episodes.
Comedy Central will begin showing the new installments beginning mid-2010. An interesting note in the press release states, "Twentieth Century Fox Television retains the option to license the original runs of the new episodes to a broadcast network," seemingly implying there is a chance a network (though come on, it would be FOX, right?) could potentially air the new episodes first, before Comedy Central.
Says co-creator Matt Groening, "We're thrilled Futurama is coming back. We now have only 25,766 episodes to make before we catch up with Bender and Fry in the year 3000." Added his fellow Futurama creator, David X. Cohen, "We're excited and amazed that the show is coming back, perhaps due to some sort of mysterious time loop. We look forward to working with Comedy Central and 20th Television to make this the best iteration of the loop yet!"
Futurama mirrors another 20th Century Fox production, Family Guy, by its impressive resurrection, years after cancellatrion. Says 20th Century Fox TV Chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden, "When we brought back Family Guy several years ago, everyone said that it was a once-in-a-lifetime thing - that canceled series stay canceled and cannot be revived. But Futurama was another series that fans simply demanded we bring back, and we couldn't have been happier when Matt and David agreed that there were many more stories yet to tell."

Billy West has to be back. He's Fry, Zoidberg, the Professor and Zap. You can't replace him. And John DiMaggio has to be back as Bender...he's easily the most popular character. I could see replacing the voices of characters like Leela or Amy or even Hermes if they feel they have to, but to totally start over is just stupid.

Can this really be a matter of money? It's not like most of the voice actors were "name" celebrities or went on to become huge. If anything, it would be a lock to be cheaper to stick with voice actors as opposed to trying to get recognizable names.

Well, then the actors are just being stupid, too. Futurama never pulled in consistent Simpsons-type numbers and revenue and wouldn't even with the hype of coming back.
Hopefully this is all just public negotiating ploys.

It got brought back because the demand was their from the fans. Just like Family Guy. It was pretty popular if I remember correctly when it was on. They probably only canned it because they didn't believe they could run with so many cartoon shows and The Simpsons were vastly more important.

what happened was they started the show at 830 after the simpsons and it was fine, but MOVED it quite stupidly to 730 to give the 830 slot to a new show called malcolm in the middle.
the 730 slot on sunday means lots and lots of preemptions for football and racing and all that dancing robot shit. its why there were 5 tv seasons of futurama and 4 season dvd sets - they held back alot of episodes and showed them all as a 5th season.
with the new voices thing, this was also tried with family guy a couple of years ago. i dont think they went through with it tho. i bet john kriskiflusi is ready to jump in for billy west tho...

Perhaps I'm wrong, but the impression I got all along when they first started to release the movies was that all the "new" episodes that would be airing on comedy central would just be the DVD movies split into episodic chunks.
