Dr.Steve,

I joined RF.net just to ask you this question...

I am a 32 year old white male who has gained 130 lbs since leaving the military 4 years ago. I now have high bp/cholesterol, sleep apnea, hip bursitis, knee issues, and feet issues. Today I just had my first exp with an upper GI follow through (barium) and I go for a colonoscopy next week for possible colon issues.

So now my question.

I have been told that obesity (BMI +40) is the root of all my woes, I have been given the opportunity to have the lap band surgery. The risk verse reward in your opinion about this method of weight loss, and would you recommend one procedure over another.

Thanks in advance....

And here I am making you wait forever! Welcome to rf.net my friend!

Ha, and now I'm going to be really lazy...I covered this once before, and I think this thread has most of what you need to know: http://www.ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=72391

check it out and write back in this thread if there are specific questions you might have and I'll try to answer them. Obviously, surgery should be considered only as a last resort, but if you really have tried every other damn thing and your weight is causing medical problems, the lap band right now seems to be the least invasive and most reversible of all the procedures out there.

good luck and keep in touch!
