So far, a pretty tight game. I'm waiting for something to blow open soon.

If your starter is failing, early relief is not a sin.

This team can't buy a big hit. So thanks Joba, they didn't need it

I just can't talk about Joba anymore. The massive idiocy that goes into thinking he should be in the pen.......... I just can't talk about it in a civil manner anymore.

He should be in the pen simply bc he can't handle more than two innings with pressure. Oh I'm sorry, it was the bugs again. It makes perfect sense to send Hughes to the pen and keep Joba up, right. Why would one ever want to set the stage for the the next in line of closers while you have the best to help teach him. He has perfect closer/setup stuff and the situation presents itself just like when Mo was coming up to setup Wetteland.

Just bc you disagree doesn't make it the right call H. I totally disagree with your take, and think ur following the likes of Hank, Cashmann and Girardi so perhaps the idiocy falls on you.

Yes, we must not follow the crushing mistake that the Jays made with Roy Halladay. Clearly following Halladay's disastrous 2000 season he should have not been given an opportunity to work out his stuff so he could become one of the best starters in the game. He should have been worked into a reliever, right?

It is complete idiocy to not try Joba as a starter. His numbers starting are still great so far. At this point his biggest problem is throwing too many pitches. He can learn how to throw less and get outs. To abandon him as a starter now is complete idiocy and there is not a team in the league that would do it. He's had 24 starts so far. That's it. And even considering that he can't throw more than 5-6 innings consistently a start he's still the team's second or third best starter. Locking down the eighth won't make a difference if they can't get there with a lead 3 out of every 5 days. And it's not like if he eventually flames out as a starter that he can't go back to the bullpen.

And I don't feel like an idiot following Cashman or Girardi. And Hughes should have been sent back down to the minors to start rather than the bullpen. Of course unless Wang ever finds himself again that will be a moot point.

There is are multiple MAJOR flaws in your comparision. Halladay was never at any level a bullpen guy, and surely didn't dominate as Joba did when he was in that position. Second, Halladay had a clear issue with his arm angle and he was sent down where he ironed out the issues and regained his form (had a no-hitter with no outs in the 9th in his very first start). Third, Halladay has never had issues with pitching deep into games, let alone getting to the 5th inning. In fact, it has always been the exact opposite. Fourth, this kid has obvious injury issues when used too much, over too many innings. My thought here is you have a choice to use him for 100 or less innings for years and move him into Mo's spot after being taught in the setup role for a few years, or burn him out (since he doesn't have the arm for it) in a few mediocre years as a starter IF he doesn't get injured.

As for Hughes, that's exactly what they should have done. We agree on that.

Joba hasn't had a lot of injury problems. He had the triceps issue coming out of college and the elbow thing last year. And he came back and pitched after the issues last year with no diminished velocity. Now if he runs into issues again this year then I start to be concerned. I'm much more concerned with Hughes. He seems just generally fragile as he seems to get injured every year in different spots. He's good so far this year. If he gets through the whole year that would be a first for him.

Chamberlain just needs to learn to pitch in the majors. If he can't then bullpen. But he's barely started learning so far. And he;s far from the first to have to learn not to throw so many pitches. Most fireballers who comes through the minors comes to the bigs trying to strikeout every single batter they face and end up out of the game in the 5th.
