Cowards. I hope this decision causes financial hardship for them.

Giving in to such a small politically-motivated special interest group is pathetic.

And now, let the "Olive Garden is fake Italian garbage" and "I'm too real to ever have eaten there" talk begin...

One has to be "too real" to have the common sense to not eat at an Olive Garden?

Luckily they have quite a strong faithful customer base comprised mainly of early bird special dinner seeking old people.

Is it OG that has the commercials that implies they train their chefs in a cullinary school in Italy?

I don't eat there, but now I will make sure I avoid it. Businesses have to learn that they lose more by bending to a boycott. Fans have to support advertises that support their shows, and shun the ones that don't.

The later. OG is as Italian as Pizza Hut.

I worked there for about a month while in college. Everything is pre-made and pre-packaged. Big trays of canneloni would come off the truck along with giant plastic tubs of sauce. Even the salad was precut and premixed and came in big bags.

Yes! Their chefs are whisked away to a remote village in the Apennines, where they attend Olive Garden Culinary Institute. They are taught how to boil heavily salted pre-made pasta dishes-in-a-bag using traditional Tuscan techniques.

They actually have a page for this.

http://www.olivegarden.com/culinary/cit/default.asp

Olive Garden’s Culinary Institute of Tuscany is located in the 11th century village of Riserva di Fizzano. Every year Olive Garden chefs travel to our Culinary Institute to learn authentic cooking secrets from Italian Chef Romana Neri and Chef Paolo Lafata.

Hundreds of Olive Garden chefs have traveled to Italy and learned the essential skills for creating traditional Italian cuisine and popular Italian great dishes; like how to choose the freshest ingredients, layering flavors to create the perfect meal, and pairing flavorful wines with each entrée to enhance the dining experience.

But they are lying. If you take their video tour here

http://www.olivegarden.com/culinary/cit/tour.asp

The opening line "Every year over 100's of OG managers travel to Culinary institute of Tuscany in Italy"

I'm imaging their "chefs" are just one "chef". I'm sure somewhere is Tuscany 1 chef comes up with a bunch of random meals to fit into a 19.99 price range entree for OG.

Some execs come over, try them out, pick one, get trashed, get some hookers, blow some lines, then fly back to the states with this recipe. Then straight to automation at the factory to pump this authentic recipe out by the 1000's to be frozen and reheated just for you.

it seems to me that it would be a really good direction if companies have to start defending themselves "Hey! We didn't pull our ads, we still support this broadcaster". It shows that their is a voice against the letter writers that they have to answer to as well. If they have to defend themselves to the people that would be angry if they pull their ads, that seems like a small victory, no?

The Olive Garden; Authentic Italian food made by Mexicans and served by Blacks.

KnoxHarrington
06-18-2009, 07:59 PM
What annoys me about Olive Garden is that in pretty much any city that has one, you can find much better, locally owned and operated Italian places with much better food, often at about the same price that Olive Garden charges for their entrees, if not less (or not much more.) But people just want to eat that slop.

I mean, even in the relatively hayseed city I'm posting for, there's an awesome Italian restaurant about 2 miles down the road. Great food, and pretty much the same prices.

The Jays

And people can also get a better burger, but they will eat at McDonald's, or they can get a better pizza , but they will eat at Pizza Hut. They can get better clothes from a local shop, but they like Old Navy. They can get a suit tailored, but they go to Joseph A. Bank.

You can't look at it like people are holding them up as great Italian food. It's the same food in every town that it comes to, people eat there, and they know they can always get the same food, same service, no matter what town they go to. They go because it's Olive Garden food, not because it's Italian food.

At least the McDonalds argument is you can drive right up and get your food in 2 minutes and cheap.

Olive Garden charges the same and you sit down and wait the same amount of time. It doesnt make sense to go there. But most dopes wouldnt know good ethnic food if you slapped them in the head with a veal parm.
