When is the best time to plant my Tomatoes?:innocent:

Really though, I have always been interested in "Street Medicine/Home Cures"
And there are two that I really wonder about.
1) Carb Cleaner (for Cars not fat people) used to field clean a wound and stop bleeding (I have friends that are mechanics..and rather than miss a days work at the hospital..they do that then go in and they swear by it)
2) Superglue to close a wound that would otherwise need stitches. (as above..a mechanic cure, although my Dad, the bleeder swears they were testing it in the field in Vietnam in Medic kits..he swears doctors use the same stuff..although it's called Liquid Sutures and costs a shitload more.)

If by "plant" you mean "jerk" and if by "tomatoes" you mean "penis", then anytime is ok as long as it doesn't interfere with meals!

On #1 I have no clue, though a lot of things that have solvents in them will clean skin (though not always safely...exposure to benzene (an organic solvent) has been linked to certain cancers).

On #2 your Dad is absolutely right. We used to have to strap kids down just to numb their stupid heads if they had a laceration so we could sew them up. Now you just pinch the skin together to evert the edges and apply some superglue. It rocks. If you're not careful with it, though, you'll get a patch of skin where no hair will grow anymore (kills the follicles). Docs who just glob it onto a wound are not doing their patients a service. As usual, finesse is appreciated.

your pal,

steve

I've superglued cuts before. Make sure to clean the wound well before you glue it up though.

Superglue works wonders for closing up minor wounds. A medical-grade product is used all the time in post-surgery. It stings a little but seals it up nice. It will also raise fingerprints on a murder weapon.

Wasn't it actually invented for surgery?

My fingers crack / split open on my fingertips around my fingernails sometimes. I just superglue them shut and it works really well. I like the GEL type the best because the regular can be pulled under the fingernail via capillary action. That can be annoying for days. I've never tried a deep cut for fear that I would seal a contaminant under the skin.

So weird. Someone just asked me about this this weekend. He cut his finger bad at this wedding we were at and somebody suggested super glue. He was in the process of calling the guy an idiot when I had to tell him it wasnt a bad idea.

I use it for finger cracks. Reccomended by dermatologist.

I just noticed this thread.

about a month ago I got the brilliant idea to be lazy and cut my bagel towards my hand instead of away. Needless to say I also had an accident and sliced deep enough into my left forefinger that it wouldn't stop bleeding, and I begrudgingly went to the hospital ER.

When they saw me they said I had a choice- I could get a few stitches and have to return, or they could superglue it.

damn did that superglue work well- even though i was kinda freaked until the week had passed that they said I'd have to watch it.
