I don't have the energy and/or patience to argue this. But the short is, Yes.
Expensive private schools do not out preform the run of the mill public school in terms of all academic testing at anything close to a significant level to suggest that better opportunities exist in private schools.
It comes down to what is taught and how it is implemented in the classroom.
Many private schools across the nation use outdated curriculum that lack in evidence based practices.

Yes, but as someone who came from a blue collar family with no college education, it can be done.
But to be honest ,that's life. If you are wealthy, you are more likely to provide a comfortable lifestyle for your family than someone who isn't.

I guess it also has to do with what profession you went into. I would think that an Ivy League schooled Dentist would make more money. But I make the same money with my SUNY diploma as a Hygienist that came out of NYU (yes, I know NYU is not Ivy League, but it is an expensive school and I'm too lazy to look up what other Universities offer my degree program).

if you saw what I posted, I made similar decision for my daughter.
I was "lucky" enough to be poor and come from The Bronx.
edit
and it wasn't 45k a year then.
you can all thank Ronnie Regan for that !
i wasnt aiming my post towards anyone so i dont know if that was a comment of solidarity (being born and raised in one of the worst neighborhoods in the bronx) or something else

see what I wrote.
it's usually 2nd generation money, although to be honest, if you have the money, that is what it is for - not hoarding.
My friend doesn't make billions, and his father did pretty well for himself, but his son does far better.
And he knows the value of a dollar -- he's jewish.

I'm not judging the situation. I'm explaining what it is, to explain why parents pay a lot of money for pre-schools or private schools. Yes, name recognition is important, which again was my point from the beginning.
However, I also stated that abilty is still important. The paper gets you an interview, but others are interviewing too. The chance does not mean that you'll get the job.
exactly.
I didn't go to a prep school, but I went to a very well known specialized HS.
I would mention the name in passing and people would perk up.
The reputation of certain places are often used (like it or not) as pre-screening.
Eagle Scouts have an easier time getting admitted to many colleges; similar thing.

I should add that my friend was not "handed" this money. He earned it himself. He wasn't a trust fund kid.
His father was a doctor and did well enough to pay for his college. But after that, my friend made all his own money.

Rutgers Basketball player.
BTW, we had drinking in college too.
All four years, I was on a speed drinking team call "Tang" similar to the Das Boot beer drinking contest in BeerFest. Two teams of ten, head to head. Each person has two 8 oz glasses of beer. First person drinks, then next, up until the 10th person who drinks two in a row, and then it goes back down to the first drinker.
Am I supposed to laugh at you or cry for you?

as for drinking, here is my old age story.
Since the drinking age was 18 when I entered Cornell,
we used to go to fraternity parties where they would pull up the beer trucks with taps on the side.
300 keg party or 500 keg party?
:drunk:
I don't think we ever had anything approaching 300 kegs, but 50-100 keg parties occurred.

Appleton is bad, Oshkosh is actually worse. There is literally a home on each block that has been converted into a bar.

I've had people do both.
Often.

So, what about your kids?
Will they know a life where doors open to them because of the paper they hold in their hand?
If so, is that because you experienced this yourself?
Or, let me ask you this, if you never attended an Ivy League school, would you feel the same way?
