I bought two tickets to the Miley Cyrus concert at The Prudential Center coming up in November. They are these paperless tickets where the ticket purchaser has to show up in person on the day of the concert and present the credit card which they were purchased with.

I guess I didn't think it all the way through but my plan was to drive my wife and daughter there (since I'm sure my wife wouldn't want to drive to Newark), give them my credit card and then let my wife and daughter go into the concert. I was talking to some people and they tell me this won't work. They say in addition to the card I would need to provide photo ID at two different checkpoints and there's no way my wife will be allowed to go into the arena in my place.

I've never used paperless tickets before. Anyone familiar with exactly how they work? Am I actually going to be stuck going to see Miley Cyrus?

Be prepared to get your freakcreep on.

I had a problem with that once. We were held up for a while until we made it in with much convincing.

Radiohead wouldn't pull this nonsense.

I find it interesting that you need a credit card, and a drivers license to see Miley Cyrus.
Two things none of her fans are old enough to possess...

Maybe you can go before hand
and pick them up in person?
I mean, the concert is in November
and I'm sure if you ask they could
leave them at will call for you.
Snoogans doesn't read this far.
What an assclown.

Here's what it says on my print-out:

"The Miley Cyrus tour is a paperless ticketed tour. You will not receive a physical ticket for entry and are required to bring the credit card used to buy your tickets and a government-issued ID to the venue, where your credit card will be swiped to gain you and your party access to the event. If you do not have your credit card and govenment-issued ID in hand at the event, you will not gain access to the event."

I guess this is actually a good idea as it is meant to thwart scalpers in that only the people buying the tickets will be allowed to use them. My hope was that since I was sending my wife instead of me they wouldn't have a problem with it since I'm not trying to get away with anything.

But from what I hear from some, including Rhino, I guess this won't be an option. So I guess I'm screwed. Looks I'll be doing the Hoe Down Throw Down in November.

that makes no sense! what if you wanted to buy these tickets as a gift for a niece or something? and what if you wanted to pay cash?

this seems like a plot to torture parents.

then you buy them at the arena box office instead of online

doesn't work if you live in california and the person you want to give the gift to lives in NY, though.

i'm all for thwarting scalpers and the ridiculous re-sale prices from ticket brokers, but there's gotta be a better way.

maybe this is a way to condition kids to accept this as the way that concert admission is done?

there's a conspiracy here, i'm just not sure what it is...

There are no tickets to buy at the box office. In fact - THERE ARE NO TICKETS - you aren't paying attention. They were only available online and sold out within minutes of going on sale. I got a print-out but that doesn't ensure anything. The only proof I have is to swipe my card as I'm walking into The Prudential Center at the time of the show. The only option was to pay by credit card - no cash. Ticketmaster would also not accept gift cards either.

its probably cause she is so huge with kids now. Something just to do with her. Ive heard of paperless tickets but usually its just a convenience option

My other worry now that I think about it is this:

Now the paperless ticket is not just a "convenience" being used by a few people. The entire arena is paperless and everyone entering has to swipe their card and produce ID. I don't suppose that a Miley Cyrus crowd is going to be filled with rocket scientists. Obviously I was confused somewhat and I consider myself a pretty smart cookie. I imagine its going to be mayhem trying to get into this motherfucker.

either that or its to scare people. When you get there, they might not even take it that serious. Sometimes they do that shit for concerts, too

Sounds like one giant will-call.

It's going to be a clusterfuck.

This would infuriate me. Actually, its infuriating me and its not even my issue. Why shouldnt you be able to pay for the tickets, and have someone else go to the show?

Maybe Dad wants to pay for the tickets, but Mom's going to the show. Or maybe I make a deal with my friend that if I buy the tickets, she takes the kids to the show.

This is the shittiest system ever!

It was an American Express pre-sale thing and my wife doesn't have an American Express card. I'm completely fucked.

Well, since it looks like I'm definitely going I will report back in this thread in about 4 1/2 months and let you know how the process goes in case this catches on with other concerts. I like the idea that they're trying to do something to combat scalpers. This all stems from the fact that people were outraged the last time Miley toured and it was impossible to get tickets from Ticketmaster and then people were selling them for $3,000+ each to parents who felt like they had to get them for their precious little girls.

I love my daughter more than the world itself but I fucking refused to pay a scalper that much. I paid $79 each for these tickets so I guess my waiting in line trying to get in will be the price I have to pay. I just hope my daughter can take it - but she's probably been conditioned to it by standing in line at Disney World.

EDIT: I just read the tags that someone added. A pederast is someone who has sex with young boys. That makes no sense in this thread. Read up on your pedo culture.

Could always call the box office and explain your situation. They might be able to help you out

Here's an update for anyone who remembers this thread and for the even fewer that care.

It's been over four months since I bought these tickets and I'd long ago accepted the fact that I couldn't get out of going to this show, because all the information provided to me was that the credit card holder had to be one of the people going into the venue. Yesterday, I got a reminder email from Ticketmaster telling me to bring the credit card I used to buy the tickets and a government issued photo ID to prove its me. Also, for the first time ever they mentioned that I don't have to actually go in myself, but I DO have to be there with my whole party to prove I'm the ticket buyer.

So, the good news for anyone who buys paper tickets in the future is you don't have to go to the actual show, but you do need to show up to get the ticket holders in.

Unfortunately for me, my wife can't go with my daughter because my father-in-law is in the hospital in NYC and she'll be with him. So, after all this fucking time and finally getting an "out" it turns out I'll be going to the Miley Cyrus concert tonight afterall. I'll be partyin' in the U.S.A. tonight for sure! Say a little prayer for me.

wouldnt the conditions of your release not let you get that close to children?

Hey Judge, this is how it worked out @ Penn State a few nights ago. The mom had to walk the two underage kids (15ish) to the door and provide a license and the actual credit card that was used to order the tickets. The cc was swiped and the tickets were provided. They brought a notarized letter of authorization stating that they were allowed to have the credit card (just in case) but they didn't need it.

Imagine driving almost five hours to a concert in a rain storm and not knowing if you are going to get in. I was on the clock but I didn't want to here two girls crying all the way home. The "prick to helpful employee" ratio at the Pru might be higher than at Penn but I think you might be able to dodge having to attend. Hope this helps.

I bought NIN tickets the same way. When you go up to will call, you need to provide the info they ask for, but then they just ended up giving us tickets, so we could have given them to anyone.
