How can you tell cat food is bad? It stinks both ways.

I opened a can of Friskies cat food for my cat. Put some on a plate and dropped it on the floor. Then I went out for awhile, came back and the cat hadn't touched it. She's old so I figured she was just being finicky.

She's meowing at me to give her more food when I got home. I scrape the old stuff in the trash, put new stuff down and walk away. She doesn't eat that either.

I just bought these cans like 2 weeks ago, I checked the dates anyway, they're fine. The food stinks like ass all the time so I can't really tell when it's "good" or "spoiled."

What else can I do? She eats the dry food I always leave down so she's eating and drinking water. She was happy and energetic to see me, she's not sick. I guess I have to throw the whole can of cat food out, any other way I can tell if it's bad?

Already did that, it's nowhere near that date. No punctures in the can, there was plenty of juice in it so it wasn't messed up and dried out.

Eh, I guess it's no big deal. 50 cents down the drain, not gonna cry. Just weird, it looks fine and smells as good as any of the other food I open for her.

Cats shouldn't be eating *wet* food, period, it fucks up their digestive process and causes bloody stool (later in life). Not cute. If the cat is hungry enough, she'll eat the dry food you leave down for her. She will not starve w/ dry food available.

Well it was the food. I threw away the whole can, opened a new one and she's currently chowing down on on some Salmon Feast. I felt kinda bad so I gave her a little extra.

She usually just eats dry food and I used the wet as a little bit of a treat for her.

We kept in in a big sealed bin that was stored in the garage. After a while the dogs stopped eating the food. I investigated and found a small hole in the bottom of the bin. I dug through the 50 pounds of food and found dead mice that had contaminated the whole bin.

Would've never known cuz couldn't see it. Stupid mice couldn't eat their way to the top and suffocated.

What I'm saying is the combination of fresh OR bad cat food, a few bricks and said cats don't float. That my friend is a very good thing!
