The muscle on the inside of my leg above my knee has been throbbing like crazy lately. When my leg is bent I can actually see it pumping like a heartbeat. It kinda hurts too. Should I seek medical attention.

Today I got blood drawn and almost passed out afterwards. The guy that took it made me sit down and put wet rags on my neck then he gave me some sugar liquid to drink, tehn water. I then had to lie down for like 10 minutes in the fetal position. I'M SO READY FOR FATHERHOOD.

That muscle is weird...if you bend your knee and tap it (on the inside, just above the knee), it'll retract and then rebound without you ever thinking about it. It's called a stretch reflex, and it's just like the knee jerk reflex or the elbow reflex that you're used to.

If the muscle is contracting and relaxing rhythmically, there may be an irritated nerve somewhere near the muscle. I'd expect that to fade away over time.

If it's occuring at random, it may be a thing called "fasciculation". Most of the time these are benign, with very little difference than when your eyelid twitches for a few minutes, or when you have hiccoughs (involuntary spasm of the diaphragm).

Fatigue, medications (like benadryl) and dehydration can cause fasciculations. Low magnesium can do it, too. Modifying these risk factors by getting rest, stopping Benadryl, drinking plenty of fluids and trying a little magnesium supplement can make a difference.

If it keeps up, or especially if you notice it in OTHER muscles, I'd see your health care provider, who will probably send you to a neurologist for a test or two.

You're as ready as anyone to have a kid. Make sure you guys read our one page baby manual (http://www.doctorsteve.com/2008/06/02/one-page-baby-instruction-manual/) before the big day.

It's OK, Doc.

We understand you're busy.

As the self-appointed moderator of the moderators, however, it's up to me to hold your feet to the fire from time to time.

I hope you understand.

That thread was for lleeder?! Damnit, I never congratulated him!

Although, hearing him fishing for compliments or whatever he was doing on R&F was hilarious.

"What kind of person would have a baby now?"
