View Full Version : Foods you Fear

Are there foods you are afraid of?
To me, anything intestinal scares me. I had tripe one time and it nauseated me and it scares me now. Those food network shows where that guy with the French sounding name eats all this stuff and goes to Indonesia to eat weird and exotic stuff makes me sick thinking of it, like raw bloody duck eggs or whatever.

Tuna. The smell of it makes me want to vomit. One time in my youth my older brother forced me to pack a lip with tuna. One of the worst experiences of my life.

Yeah, okra kind of bothers me with all the holes in it. When I was growing up, I had a friend from Columbia and his mother used to make plantains and I dont know why, but something about them being slimy on my plate reminded me of a large insect larva, and it freaked me out and I never would go near it again. I guess I assumed they would taste sweet, like a banana, and it was really tasteless and bland and my weird and wild imagination an away with the idea. My wife's family cooks rabbits and one time they served it and I saw the rabbits teeth and it turned my stomach. I had another friend when I was a kid whose father was German and he would eat these pickled sheeps tongues, and I would open their refrigerator and see these jars filled with tongues and it scared me as a kid.

Yes, tartar does as well, and anything with bugs. Most everything else I can eat or can not recall at this moment.
Chitlins are good if cleaned and done right, heart, gizzard, and liver are not my things but do not scare me.

heart always grossed me out, but as a kid i loved chicken livers. scalding hot right out of the pan with salt and pepper. if they cooled down even a little the taste became icky. now i don't know if i could even have those.

I fear soy based food, because I fear that soy will give me the runs, so I stay away from it.

I also fear oxtails and anything that is close to the rectum. Oxtails look so slimy and disgusting when cooked. I won't eat anything that is related to anything a Jamaican might make, like jerk foods.

I think ox tongue is pretty good... oxtail too... Also I think most organ meats can be good if prepped right...
After spending a few months in Shanghai, what grossed me out the most was jellyfish, fish eyes, and chicken feet.
...at first I was disgusted by the 'fat cubes', but damn they are good.

I don't consider oil and vinegar condiments, not to say i like vinegar 'cause i don't.
Ketchup, mustard, mayo, bleu cheese, relish, sauerkraut, honey mustard, tartar sauce, guacamole, BBQ sauce, soy sauce, etc etc.
The first time i ate salsa i was 17. The first time i tried chicken with a sesame dipping sauce i was 22ish.
If i am sitting at the table and someone asks to "pass the ___" and it is a condiment, i won't touch it, someone else would have to.
My boyfriend is also required to brush his teeth after eating anything that is condiment heavy.

It depends.
I can't just eat what is served to me for the fact that i both don't eat a lot of foods people normally eat without hesitation and also because if i have no desire to eat what it is i would rather not eat at all.
So yes, basically i have to make everything myself. It's like 90/10.

So I guess you're not a fan of sushi?
I eat sushi... just mostly the vegetarian kind
and I only fear the oyster and muscles stuff cause I had an unpleasant memory from when I was a kid and we were in France... we were at a restaurant eating lunch near the sea and some guy across from me had this big silver bucket full of what I think were oysters and he slurped them right in front of me while I was supposed to eat my crepes...
and it smelled fishy there too so it was just all around unpleasant!

See, my family loves mussels and oysters by the pound but yet they are so resistant to trying sushi. It takes some getting used to the slightly different texture.

Oh yeah I def have a hard time holding down oysters... Everytime I eat it (usually out of respect for my teachers who prepared it for me, native Chinese), I dry heave and gag and to my best not to throw up in front of the people who made it for me...
I also don't like smoked salmon... it doesn't gross me out I just don't like it... salmon prepped any other way I find fantastic.
I also think tripe is good... esp. in a soup.

I do not mind eating a whole fish, like a branzini or a pompano, but if I see its eyes, it scares me. I always will get rid of that area very quickly. I don't like seeing anythings eyes when I eat it. Lobster, crabs etc.

Oysters have to be cooked for me to enjoy them. Once you start shooting raw oysters with tequila poured into the shell, then see what it all looks like vomited up, you'll never eat that shit again.

Don't worry, nobody cares about discrimination against Limeys. I think discrimination was a Limey invention, anyhow, so it's kind of like seeing somebody go home. CHIP 'n' FISH GUV'NAH!?

Otherwise I don't really like slimy or rubbery foods, like scallops, snails, stuff like that.

I have the same problem with the Fiber 1 toaster pastries...I had the most horrible stomach cramps all day and I barely pooped, which was a major disappointment.
They're still sitting in my kitchen cabinet, staring at me every time I look for something.
