Alright buddy...some serious questions coming at you, so strap on your thinking cap.

What causes the change in size and consistency of bowel movements?

How come sometimes you shit little pellets, other times a few small logs, and sometimes one giant sea serpent?

Why the change in coloration and consistency?

Is there an ideal to strive for when it comes to fecal matter?

As always, thanks.

Bowel movements are a source of endless fascination for some people. You should check out some of the colonfreak websites that are out there. These people are so obsessed with their bowel movements that they take a knife to them and analyze them for consistency and all kinds of shit (no pun intended).

The Chinese eunuchs used to smell the stool of the emperor and decide what food he should eat next (proving that the Emperor really had no power...he was always at the mercy of his servants, but that's another topic).

Doody is endlessly fascinating because it's infinitely varied. When you have a large, delightful bowel movement, everything is right with the world. Get bloated, constipated, or have an assburner and your whole life seems less worth living.

A lot of colon health has to do with the GIGO theory of computer science: Garbage In, Garbage Out. Eat a crappy diet, and you'll shit pellets.

Great bowel movements depend on two things, mostly...plenty of fiber in the diet (we were hunter-gatherers after all...if we ate any carbohydrates they were whole grain fo' sho) and a symbiotic relationship with good bacteria. If either are missing, you'll have inconsistent bowel movements at best.

To increase the fiber in your diet, eat plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, and if you can't or won't do that and want a pill to fix everything, you can take FIBER CHOICE tablets or Citrucel Powder (editor's choice).

To improve the bacteria in your awful gut, take ALIGN or FLORA-Q2 supplements. The yogurts out there that are probiotic are ok, but the dose of bacteria is pretty low and may not help a really bad case.

hope this helps!

your pal,

steve

as moderator, I get to rename every thread when I move them out of the "ask dr steve" thread. so if a title stinks, it's my fault, not the original poster.

Ever lay a turd, look at it, and actually see where two meals came together?
