since this is a team race, why does Lance Armstrong get all of the credit for winning?!?

btw, i'd rather be an average major league baseball player than the best bicycle rider.

Yeah, Contador is an amazing climber. He is good, but not as great at Lance in the individual time trials - there is one on Wed, I think. It is going to be really tough for him to overcome a 1'37" deficit. Here's to hoping!

Doesn't matter now, does it?

I think Lance has done a lot for cancer research and I admire him for that, but I also know it's well known for a.long, long time in the sports industry that he hasn't been honest when it comes to his performance. I've read some sports insiders (agents, trainers, journalists) say that he is a flat out asshole only looking for fame.

10 former teammates ready to testify against him. Can they all be just jealous and want to see him fall?

I don't feel glad about this story, I feel sad.

Greg Lemond saw this thread and was like Wuttttt?

But anyway, I dont like Lance but I feel bad for him. In the middle of getting everyone into the livestrong thing he would've had to cop to being a cheat, at a time when everyone was cheating.

If he wasn't so consumed by hubris he wouldn't have knocked out 7 tours. If he had been happy with 3 we probably wouldn't be talking about this. If he had admitted it back in the day they probably would've done a token strip and let him keep some of his victories.

I'm wearing and Eddy Merckx tshirt right now.

He inspired Peter Le Fleur to lead Average Joes' to victory. That makes him a saint.

This doesnt change anything for me. I still feel athletes should be allowed to take steroids if they want to.

I don't think he was accused of steroid use, I think he was blood doping, like they ALL do.

The process of increasing the number of circulating red blood cells, either by transfusing an individual with blood that has been previously removed or by administering erythropoietin, in order to increase the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood for improved athletic endurance. Also called blood boosting, blood packing

this is the official definition, I knew it had something to do with increasing the oxygen in the blood.

When I raced back in the 80's is when I first heard of doping. The US cyclists accused of it, trained in the thin air of Colorado. They took the blood from training in the low oxygen region, and reintroduced it to themselves when they raced at lower altitudes.

As for Livestrong, it looks like this may not hurt them. They said today, the donations they received Friday were 30 times greater than what they got on Thursday.

Are you sure this isn't how the Polish and Newfoundland teams do it?

I'm sure at some point, every team has done it. But the particular case I'm referring to was the US team. I'm pretty sure it was the Olympic team. I don't think they ever proved they did it. And if I remember correctly (it's been a long damn time) there was debate as to if it was actually a rules violation at the time.

All I know is that there was a recent triathlon here and 10% of the participants were wearing these things:
http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/features/aerohelmet/sm/aero37w.jpg

Boy did they look stupid. There has been a record number of bicyclists getting killed/severely injured this year. They constantly ride side by side and impede traffic. The ride dangerous roads with no shoulders. They wave people by them on blind curves. Anyone who takes a spandex-clad douche waving them by as an indication of a safe time to pass is ass-out mongo. I've been stuck behind a "pelleton" (yes, when they pretend that they are a race team, they like to call themselves a "pelleton". It's douche-speak for group), and while following at a safe, respectful distance despite angry waving by, more of these douches passed me on a double yellow and parked their gay tight pants asses right in front of me. It is not uncommon to come around a turn and find a fake team of these pieces of shit just standing next to their bikes in the actual lane, drinking their scientifically engineered fluid that they bought at REI. One of the things I do during the hours of time I spend behind these cunts is to picture them moving like they are without a bike. They look really stupid, almost like those speed-walkers that you used to see. I like the swollen-prostate riders too, with their knees jutting way out because their addiction to attention, riding, and buying stupid bicycle products has caused their body damage. Lately you see these fucking idiots with the latest product, the flamboyant theater gloves:

What man actually buys a product like this? The spandex-boys, that's who.

So when their douche leader gets hosed like this, I kind of like it.

Dude!

It's only a peloton if they ride close enough to each other (no more than a couple of inches from one rider's front wheel to the other rider's rear wheel, so they can draft as a group. The guy in front does most of the work, then drops to the back of the peloton. It's the same reason geese fly in a V formation.

And, yeah... Most riders are douches. When I did it, there weren't nearly as many of us on the road as there are now, and we respected the fact that cars are big, fast, heavy, and quite often being driven by old ladies and drunk rednecks. Today's riders tend to be self important assholes.

He rode for their team. He's no longer a racer. Any ads he did for them was part of the team sponsorship.
