As a kid, 45's were the rage, and older kids were into the albums. I think my first album was the "Yellow Submarine Soundtrack" by the Beatles. I just saw it in the movies and had to have the album.

Vinyl kicks ass!, especially the old 45 singles. Every record store got a new shipment of the top 50 or 100 hits every week, and you would hear a song on WABC and run then run and buy it. And remember those yellow disks you stuck in the middle? ;)

I had a cousin who found Jesus back in the 60's and he threw away all of his "evil rock and roll" lp's and singles. I grabbed them all, and I instantly became the coolest kid in the 4th grade because I could sing "Inna Gadda Da Vidda".

The first album I bought with my own money was The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper. I remember it came with some kind of cutouts that I hung around in my room. The fact that it had the words on the back cover made it even better.

This one required some
research and deep thought and
here goes...
Classical: Beethoven's 9th.
Jazz: Miles Davis, Kind Of Blue.
Folk: Woody Guthrie.
Rock: Sun Recording's, Elvis.
Honorable Mentions: All of
Pink Floyd, Sabbath, Zeppelin
and the Beatles.
The first of all was Elvis.
Still the coolest sumbitch of all.

When I was a kid, I had a bunch of the Muppet and Snoopy albums...my first requested album was "Thriller" by MJ, and the first piece I bought myself was Anthrax's "I'm The Man" ep...

Oh, and btw-
I can't believe I couldn't remember. It was a floppy record "Billy and the Boingers", out of a Bloom County book. I never got it to play.

That's great, it's from the book "Billy & The Boingers Bootleg" and the songs are pretty funny...I still have that floppy record! I think one of the songs was done by Mucky Pup...

It's not funny, my ass is on fire...

Man, most of you have cool ones. Well, here's where my formative years started to go bad:

<li>First 45: <b>Queen</b> - <i>"Another One Bites The Dust"</i> (b-side <i>"Don't Try Suicide"</i>)</li>

<li>First album (vinyl): <b>Styx</b> - <i>"Pieces of Eight"</i></li>

It would probably be better if I didn't remember stuff like this.

Hmm I think my first album was the soundtrack to some play with Kevin Kline. I can't even remember the name of it but my mom bought it for me because I was taking a dance class and had to dance to one f the songs for a recital. First album I purchased myself was Billy Joel's Glass Houses I believe.
