I've been out of town but heard Howard read this today - WJFK is switching to a sports format... http://www.examiner.com/x-963-DC-Pop-Culture-Examiner~y2009m7d7-WJFK-to-sports-talk

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere...

The WJFK website is still intact for the moment. Are Big O and Dukes on right now?

Hey, what can I say... DC is a sports town. Always has been.

Seriously. They're mad about sports in DC.

It's Official: JFK To Do Sports Flip Monday, O'Meara Gone - 7/14 - DCRTV hears that CBS Radio will make the official announcement today that guy talker WJFK will become "Sportsradio 106.7 The Fan" at 6 AM on Monday, 7/20. As DCRTV has told you, CBS suits are meeting with advertisers at noon today at the Verizon Center. As expected, the Junkies, now the Sports Junkies, will remain in morning drive. And, as we've reported, Mike Wise will be paired with Bill Rohland in middays, with Chad Dukes and Lavar Arrington doing afternoon drive. There will be a website at 1067thefandc.com. And, as we've reported, the Wizards will air on JFK this fall, with Dave Johnson and Glenn Consor calling the games. Plus, as we've hinted, JFK will be carrying Westwood One's NFL "Primetime" package of Thursday, Sunday, and Monday games, plus the playoffs and the Super Bowl. That package had aired on Redskins owner Dan Snyder's WTEM, ESPN 980. We also get confirmation that longtime afternooner Mike O'Meara is a gonner. His show is in reruns this week. We hear that O'Meara will do a farewell segment, but not a full live show, on Friday, 7/17. More soon.....
From DCRTV

Looks like all sports on Monday and Mike O'Meara is doing a pre tapped goodbye segment on Friday. DCRTV also says Westwood One will stop syndication of his show as well.

I honestly can't see anyone who listens to 980 religiously switching over to JFK, especially since if you aren't in NOVA, that signal stinks

104.1 WBCN announced they are flipping next month. Mix 98.5 is becoming MIX 104, 98.5 will be WBZfm with Toucher and Rich in the morning along with Bruins and Patriots games.

BCN will just be online after that.

Hideous - taking it off the preset once and for all.

For the first time since Howard made WJFK his second syndicated station, after WYSP, I will not have 106.7 on my radio dial. Over 20 mother fucking years - wow!

Good for the Junkies, however - I'm not a fan, but there is part of me to see they continue to survive the curse of FreeFM.

Well, this is really it. Even though The Don and Mike show has been gone for over a year now, I still held onto their memory (and so many great memories of that show growing up in NOVA) with The Mike O'Meara show...even though it was a pale shadow of the old days, it was something, and it was something to hold onto after losing what was really a part of my youth. Still, Mike deserved better than this. I'm really sad to see this station die after ten plus years as a regular listener. No more Mike O'Meara, no more Hideout, not even Big O and Dukes. Ron and Fez, you're all I have left...I GOT NOWHERE ELSE TO GO! Please stick around guys, and get better, Fez. Keep the eternal flame of this lost era burning.

The Junkies were talking about the format flip this morning (in glowing terms of course) and one of them made a really great point: only a few short years ago WJFK featured Stern, Don and Mike, O&A, Ron and Fez and The Hideout. Now they're all gone.

This kind of annoys me because I don't know where the remote is for my unit in the car, so when 202 goes to commercials I usually flip to jfk for the few minutes until Ron and Fez or O&A come back on.

RIP wjfk. Only station I've listened to regularly for 20 years. For the past six months Big O and Dukes was the best thing going on that station, thought they fit right in with O&A and R&F. Now they aren't even gonna be together after the flip. It's funny that the Sports Junkies became the Junkies and are now back to being the Sports Junkies, never really liked em much. Maybe this sets up a possible return of the Radio Gods should the sports talk format flounder. They definitely lost me, its all NPR or my Sansa from now on. Fuck

Dan Snyder couldn't ruin JFK any worse.
Wise's show is a snoozefest.

Big O & Dukes was very good and it was so so sad to see them go...

I gave a couple of these shows a shot during 202 commercial breaks and they are all seriously god awful. It inspired me to give a flip through the dial to see what my DC market terrestrial radio sounds like and my god is it worse than when I left it. What are these short sighted idiots thinking? Has there ever been a cataclysmic fucking of a medium in entertainment history? Or a period in one that compares to this? I'm asking seriously cause I don't know but I'd be interested to hear about one if there was one.
