I quit a couple years ago once my father-in-law had a heart attack because of his smoking habit.

Everyone in Europe still smokes, though.

I've never smoked (aside from the second hand type), though that's not really anything worth talking about since I've got more life ahead of me than I've lived, but the idea of smoking doesn't appeal to me even a little bit.

For the non-smokers, please dont even bother defending this. Its fucking ridiculous and nothing you can say will make it acceptible. These guys have what may be the most stressfull job out there and if they need a cigarette to relax, they should be able to have one. Pretty funny that jerk-offs are trying to take away a basic "freedom" from the same guys they always tout for fighting so hard for those freedoms.

I don't know what people do after dinner if they don't smoke.

Normally I go sit on the porch and enjoy a cigarette.

In all seriousness I felt the same way every time I tried to quit.
I do get concerned sometimes though, like as of now I'll be smoking for ten years in a couple of months, and when I think about it it seems like a long time and a lot of damage done. I hope I get it into my brain to quit relatively soon cause this is not going to end well.

If you are trying to quit, drink a lot of water. Imagine it flushing you out.
Also, when you get the urge, do ten push-ups.
In your mind, keep saying this too: Each time you feel a craving, that feeling is the feeling of your body ridding itself of nicotine. Keep that thought running through your mind. It helps.

Good luck. You can do it!! You are bigger than it!

I know what you mean. When I quit 7 years ago I just went to bed after supper. It sucked for awhile, but it is worth it. The worst part was driving in the car for me. I smoked and sang songs all the way to work. I think that is why I am fat now. Now, in the car I eat and sing (and yell at the kids to be quiet when a good song is on).

The cravings will pass. You need to find a hobby in the mean time.

My mom smoked. As a kid, I hated the smell of cigarettes. Never smoked.

For those who worry about rights being taken away from smokers leading to a slippery slope, don't fear. The smokers' rights advocates of the 1990s created the bad press that fueled the non-smoking policies of this decade. Non-smokers said, "your habit effects my health" to which the smokers replied, "I'll blow smoke rings in your face ya pussy!" Smoking advocates played the wrong rhetorical game.

In the coming years, they should be trying to find ways to get their habit back into their local clubs and bars by being civil. Ron's best argument for smoking is "why do you have to be comfortable all the time?" My response is that "I am paying to dine in comfort."

I have noticed that in Japan, there are scientists and engineers who are trying to make smoking areas that are entirely unobtrusive to the non-smoking sections. In the states, before the ban, restaurants were open-air with the smokers near the entrance so every customer had to enjoy the sweet smells of tobacco wafting through the air.

maybe we go to different Japans, because the restaurants there allow smoking everywhere. The only place I see that has regulations is at the office, and the smoking areas share the same ventilation system, so you smell smoke even if you go no where near the smoking area.

Within the past two years several national restaurant chains switched to non-smoking but build sealed ventilated smoking rooms. It is getting better. Chicago is much much much better for the non-smoker, but I feel that Japan is doing a better job accommodating both parties.

I do see the other side, and as I said before, its bullshit. I dont give a fuck what the healthcare system is, if smoking is legal then the government has no right telling people they cant smoke. If they want to destroy big tobacco so bad, instead of using all these passive aggressive ways of attacking them, just make smoking fucking illegal!

Then we could get them on the black market cheap and not have to worry.

There is no excuse for taking rights away from the people. Especially soldiers. Those fucking guys should not only have the right to smoke, they should have cartons of cigarettes shipped to them for free.

there's actually talk among economists that smokers actually save the health system money, by dying younger.

and i'm really torn on the soldiers thing. i get the freedom angle, but they really want these guys to be in tip-top shape. like do any pro athletes smoke anymore? i remember (i think it was a simmons article) and he was talking about refs smoking overseas and being shocked by it. it crushes conditioning.

Ya know what though? How it is all the athletes from the 40's ,50's and 60's did so well and were in such good shape yet they smoked? Everyone from pro baseball players to pro wrestlers smoked and not to mention all those WW2 soldiers, yet they never seemed to have a problem.

I just think its pretty fucked up to ask what we do of these soldiers and take away one of the few pleasures they can actually have. Its just fucking wrong.

and now the athletes are a ton better. there's just no comparing their fitness levels.

or, that's because they were competing against folks at their level. put them out there today and they'd die.

I do see the other side, and as I said before, its bullshit. I dont give a fuck what the healthcare system is, if smoking is legal then the government has no right telling people they cant smoke.

What if said people are Government employees?

You tried eating cock and asshole before eating pussy?

Or was it the other way around?

And it's WAY cheaper to buy a big bag of tobacco and roll your own. It's probably healthier too because the bags of tobacco I've seen are mostly leaves. Maybe you smokers can start growing hydroponic tobacco indoors under high pressure sodium lights.

Gregory,

I read in another post that you gave in and smoked. I'm all talk about cool kids smoking and all, but I'm in the process of quitting...I was prescribed Chantix...and it's working wonders.

http://www.chantix.com/

I'm usually a pack a day+ smoker...on day 2, I had about 12 cigarettes, day 3 I had 7, and today is day 4...and I've had only half a cigarette so far. I have no great urge to smoke, and it's amazing. Worth checking out!

My friend's wife quit with chantix and she recommended it also, Vando. When I read the possible side effects, however, it scared me.

Yeah, so far I've only been pooping more (I didn't know it was possible...) and right now I have a raging headache, but that's all. I'm only on the lowest dosage though, so I'll let you know what happens since it goes up soon...

I'm slightly scared, but I'm determined to follow through with it as long as it doesn't start seriously fucking with me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

I've been having crazy dreams my entire life, so nothing out of the ordinary. I had a dream that my brother stole my leftovers from dinner the other night. If I still lived at home, that would have been more likely a reality. Pretty tame compared to the shit my head makes up in my sleep...

I had stranger dreams when using the patch...I was fighting zombies with Michael and George Michael from Arrested Development. We were in an abandoned farmhouse on a mountain where it was only snowing inside...I woke up laughing.

Gave up cool sticks about 18 months ago but I still smoke cigars. To me its 100% about doing something while I do something else. Even w/ cigars, when Im walking around nyc I almost feel that I need to smoke one...which is basically just a replacement for cigs.

As far as people actually not smoking? There are a lot of kids who are just ingrained believing smoking is wrong, when in fact its quite delicious.
