My daughter lost her first tooth today.
How much money does the tooth fairy typically leave kids these days?
From what I remember, I got a lousy quarter per tooth.

in lieu of payment, leave a note that reads, "the tooth fairy has made a generous donation towards your future orthodontics"

how old is your daughter? does she understand the value of money yet?
I don't remember what age teeth falling out starts, but for now Lukas is excited about every penny he finds...
I am not planning on leaving 5 bucks under his pillow... if I get around before it starts I might try to get some dollar coins at the bank and keep them around for just that purpose.

She's five. She doesn't have much of a concept of the value of money. When I asked her how much she thought the tooth fairy would leave her, at first she said: "$20 million." When I said: "Wow! That's a lot of money!", she said: "well, maybe $2."
I think she's going to get $2.
I was just thinking that I wished I had thought to pick up some dollar coins. Especially since her tooth has been loose for about three weeks. I really have no excuse.

I got a fifty cent piece for each of my teeth.
Burkely got some teeth pulled and he got $10 for that from the tooth fairy and a $50 lego freight plane from us.
Typically $1 a tooth...we are cheap.

life is excuse enough! She will never remember how much money her first tooth was worth.
Lukas thinks the coins are way more precious than paper bills (he is 4) , if you pile up some quarters, nickels and dimes she will be happy as queen! Don't buy into what today's value should be, go by what your child's values are.
Be careful

i was a spoiled only child so i got anything between a buck and five depending on the pre-tooth loss ordeal. in place of money, one time t.f. gave me a crystal with a unicorn carved into it once...
i also made ham sammiches for the tooth fairy... because apparently that was what tooth fairy's liked to eat at night.
AND i used to leave hand written questionnaires for the tooth fairy to find out more about her. (i still have one in storage).
my favorite q & a:
me: What is your name?
t.f.: Bruce. Because all fairies are named Bruce.
(my dad was the t.f. mastermind... in case you haven't figured it out... :) )

Your dad sounds fun and has a cool sense of humor.
I was lucky to get 50 cents per tooth. Damn early 70s.

it's a completely American thing, if you ask me what we used to get back in Germany? Nothing... well, not exactly, we took great pleasure in bragging to our friends about how we lost that tooth... string tied to a door, sister just yanking it out on a string... wiggling it lose... whatever fancy method came to mind.

She lost the second tooth tonight.
This one wasn't pretty.
Somehow, the tooth got snagged on her nightgown while my wife was helping her put it on.
Lots of blood and crying.
