The former CBS News anchor has died at age 92, CBS is reporting.

Not unexpected, but very sad.

That's the way it is, I guess.

It is the opinion of this poster that Walter Kronkite's war against illness and old age is unwinnable.

I have Larry King Live on CNN now, and it's sad. Not just because Walter Cronkite died, but they're interviewing Larry King (who's not actually hosting tonight, he's calling in), Don Hewitt, and Mike Wallace, and they all sound like such doddering old men.

He was an icon to many, I didn't know him because of my age but I had no problems with him.

I also hope now that since a quite high profile celebrity died we can FINALLY move past Michael Jackson. I was sick of that coverage the next day.

I'll never forget June 25th as long as I live.

I'm sick of celebrity deaths. I know you don't choose when you die, but it's just become such a cliche to die these days.

I would be terrified right now if I were a celebrity. God is really having it out with them lately.

At least he lived long enough to see Dan Rather get forced out of the anchor chair, before his time, in favor of someone with far less journalistic credibilty.

92 years is more than a good run.

Goodbye to what was left of real journalism.

The former CBS News anchor has died at age 92, CBS is reporting.

From New York City, New York, the flash, apparently official: Walter Cronkite died some 24 hours ago.

My theory is that once he found out that Sarah Palin was misquoting him on her Twitter account he thought "Fuck it. You guys are on your own."

Godspeed Mr. Cronkite.

Walter Cronkite is one of the few celebrity interactions I ever had at my job. I work at a hotel that is connected with a medical facility, so celebrities are few and far between. I was still working at the front desk at the time, and Cronkite is a walk in for a room. I'm standing there practically speechless, asking Cronkite for his credit card, address and phone number. By himself, no staff, no assistant, no family, no aliases used. I was flustered for the rest of the night...

I got that ref.

Quite appropriate that he died near the anniversary of the moon landing, and sad that, like the moon landing, only us oldsters care.

He was a journalistic icon. Like Murrow (who was even before my time) Cronkite refers to the days when News wasn't all about entertainment, but about informing us.

RIP newsman.
And That's the way it is.

CBS replaced 60 Minutes with a Walter Cronkite retrospective this evening.
Very well done I thought.
The man led a good life, and lived life to its fullest.
RIP.
