Why is it so hard?
Why do so many animals go unloved?
Why am I being denied?

Obviously you're mentally unstable.
Just do what I did - rescue a kitten from a sewage drain.

Should I take the garbage ball next to it too?

I had no problem adopting my cat or when my ex-wife adopted her cat. Both were found using petfinder.com and mine was a fostered 3 month old kitten and her's was a SPCA kitten. Of everyone I have referred I had only heard of two disapprovals because they had 3 cats 2 dogs and the other had one grey hound (adopted) and 4 cats.

1. Because the shelters are over run w/ the amount of domesticated animals they have to take in that people simply abandon.
2. Because people are stupid selfish fucks that don't bother to pay attention to the cost and care it takes to have a pet in your family.
3. This is not as simple. The rescue groups i have come in contact with have VERY strict adoption rules, on top of ridiculous adoption fees. I have a friend that was denied to adopt a cat because she had a 3 yr old daughter and they bluntly said to her *Your toddler will kill the cat.* WHAT THE FUCK?!?!? It is completely insane the amount of shit an animal adoption agency will put you through before you can offer an abandoned animal a new, loving home. :glurps: Keep looking, there are good ones out there!

Pet Finders (http://www.petfinder.com/)
Though I didn't end up getting my dog from this website, I looked at several. It's a very helpful resource.

I am currently courting a few contenders for my family through craigslist.
However, I am surprised by how many backyard breeders are on craigslist.
It's sad.

Sad for the dogs? I totally agree.
Sad for the breeders you're about to give your money to? Not so much.
If you're going the breeder route, make sure you the see the parent dogs. And if at all possible, try to get a feel for how the breeders themselves keep and handle the dogs. People don't realize how much of a big deal the puppy's early beginnings are.

I've abandoned the breeder route.
All shelter or craigslist dogs.
I would rather take an animal that no one wants.

 This makes me happy! There are so many dogs out there that need loving homes, it's just a matter of finding the right fit.
It's still super hard, at this point, to pass shelter standards. They want someone w/a stable home and income (crazy, i know) to ensure they don't have to take the dog back in and try to re-find a home for them.

Here in MN, we have a place called Paws and Claws. They are super picky. They will not adopt a pet out if you have kids under the age of 6. Pisses me off because me kids are very nice to animals....

I'd take one but it might anger and/or sadden your hubby.
I don't want to do that to him.

Thanks.
I saw a dog this morning (well, now yesterday) and I think I might end up having the family placing him with me.
Hopefully it works out.
