View Full Version : Ben Roethlisberger accused of sexual assualt
More about this will come out tomorrow I bet. (http://deadspin.com/5319092/ben-roethlisberger-accused-of-sexual-assault)
WTAE-Pittsburgh reports that a Nevada casino employee has filed a civil lawsuit against Steeler quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, accusing him of sexual assault. His attorney denies the charge. More tomorrow, obviously, when Feel Good Story Week continues.

A Super Bowl champion QB can't go to Vegas and have a good time without coming back with assault charges? What is the world coming to?

Everybody always rushes to judgment in these cases. I'll wait for the facts to come out.

The guy is definitely a tool bag, but this story is so full of holes it appears to not be a big deal. She is claiming she was assaulted by like 10 people, of both sexes and over a year ago. This won't go anywhere.

Yeah, because we know pro athletes never participate in any salacious sexual activities.

That's not my point at all. Read the story, it sounds ridiculous.

It's interesting that she only filed a civil suit and did not seek a criminal suit.

If he chooses this chick to rape, then he is as bad at picking out victims as he is at reading the blitz.

This is interesting... (http://deadspin.com/5319432/espn-ignoring-biggest-stories-of-the-day-important-updates?skyline=true&s=x)
UPDATE: PFT's Mike Florio says that ESPN "issued a 'do not report' memo to all of its outlets and reporters" instructing them not to discuss the Roethlisberger case, but did not provide explanation or justification for the order. They pulled a similar move last year on a story they believed not to be true, but that is not the case this time.
However, an ESPN source tells Deadspin that it's a previously established company policy to not report on civil cases involving athletes. Presumably this means that were it tied to a criminal case (like the Zendejas situation) or there were other extenuating circumstances, it might become "news," but they would otherwise stay out of it.
There is some logic to that, I suppose, but it still feels odd to watch most other major media outlets cover a developing story while the leader in sports coverage remains completely silent.
And this is why I cannot stand ESPN

Some of the chicks emails were released to the press. Pretty damning.
One was sent 24 hours later saying how fun the event was. I never believed this chick. this doesn't help
