Went up to Saratoga Springs this weekend to visit a friend from HS. I didn’t really hang out with her in HS but we really hit it off at a mini HS reunion that someone set up through Facebook.
It was SO DRAINING and SUCH a dramafest!!!! She has a habit of dating losers but she told me she hooked up with one of my old neighbors (the son of my parents’ best friends). When she told me that I was thinking, “Hooray! She finally found a nice, stable guy!” They always used to baby sit me.
Now, granted, I haven’t seen the guy in 30 years. I figured, since he’s 47, he’d be somewhat established; have a place of his own, maybe be in business for himself. NOPE!!!! He’s a FRIGGIN crackhead!!!
I couldn’t believe it!!! He’s a loser. All the sons wound up being losers. It really broke my heart because I thought I could reconnect with a good person who really KNEW my family. I just don’t understand it—why CRACK?!?! I had no idea it was in my little home town.
And all weekend I had to console this girl. I was her therapist all weekend. She’d be mad at him one minute and then defend him the next. I had to remind her of how she HID her valuables when he went up there a few weeks ago. She even wanted him to move in with her but he freaked out when she insisted he get a job! WHAT A LOSER!!!
It breaks my heart to see her put herself through this. She says he’s a “puppy dog” that she wants to save. Yeah, a puppy dog who’ll wind up stealing from her and let his crackhead buddies into her house. The thing is, she’s gone through this before!!! She lived with an addict for 4 years and he did the worst things to her!
I don’t know what I should do. I feel like I should have her back so she doesn’t get involved with guys like these (but, then again, she tends to omit important details… like a guy’s drug habit!). It’s like she’s addicted to the drama (waaay too much for me!). I certainly don’t want to visit her anymore. God knows who’ll be in her house. I don’t want to get ripped off by some dirt bag she wants to save. Plus, it wasn’t all that much fun being around her.
