There's lots of factors that determine how quickly alcohol affects you. How much food you've eaten before drinking, how fast you drink, weight, etc. I'm sure that having his stomach stapled had some influence on his getting drunk so quickly. I think there may have been some psychological factors at work here as well.

Let's hope that he calls that counsellor or someone. Being confronted with your own behavior when drunk may be a powerful motivator, but without the resolve to do something about the problem, he'll wind up in a vicious circle.

The size of your stomach has nothing to do with how drunk you get.

He's been sober for 11 years. That will lower your tolerance. Now he's a bigger lightweight then Al Dukes, but knowing Billy he'll build that tolerance back in a month...then comes the cocaine, and crack, THAT'S GONNA BE ONE HELL OF A SHOW!

While this is accurate, the question was whether it made him get drunk faster. Alcohol is absorbed into the blood stream through the intestines, and if the stomach is smaller, it may pass through more quickly to the small intestine.

As is often said, alcohol affects everyone differently. I had a friend that when we got out of work and went drinking at a friends house, he got hammered on two beers (that's right, two) and this was over the course of an hour. Obviously he earned the name "Lightweight".

Having not seen Billy "in action" previously, it would be hard to say whether this was a fluke or a normal turn of events. I certainly hope that he seeks help in any case.

For true alcoholics it's not uncommon to get ungodly hammered after only a couple drinks. Sometimes it takes 20 beers and sometimes 2. Go to your local bar at 12:30 in the afternoon and you can see this in action.
