Sad day. He was a defensive football genious who's style was a perfect fit for Philly.
Damn that cancer is quick. Great football mind that inspired and mentored many coaches. He should/will be regarded in the same light as the "Holmgren tree" but for his defensive innovation. I always liked when the Skins matched up against legends. He was surely one of them. He will be missed.

I only consider him second behind Monte among modern defensive legends.

This might be a dumb time to think this, but has a coach who was "only" a coordinator for his career ever been inducted into the hall of fame? Or have only head coaches been put in? His time with Philly, I'm not sure if there was a better defensive only coach for the entire period.

Monte will likely go in. J.J. might as well.
A couple of his disciples are also currently head coaches, John Harbaugh and Steve Spagnuolo. Hell of a legacy for a D-coordinator.

He should be in the Hall of Fame. Guy was just amazing at defense.
Sucks that he is gone, not just from football but to go at 68..just sucks.

JJ and Buddy Ryan are what the Eagles represent personified...
I'm a Cali guy but I bleed with the Eagles...
Fuck the 49ers and Raiders...
(When I was little Randall Cunningham made me a die hard Eagle fan)
God bless you Coach Johnson
My dream is to travel to Philly and see a game one day...
You Philly guys never froget how priveleged you are to have the greatest football dynasty in your town!

Same with me. When I was a young pup, Randall Cunningham made me a Eagles fan. And I'm from Brooklyn.
Jim Johnson just made that defense a monster. Last year the main reason we even made it to the playoffs and to the championship was that D.
