Family Reunions

I'll be going to one for my husband's side (mostly from Alabama) this weekend. They have one every other year and have really high participation. There will be over 80 people there. I'm kind of nervous since I've never met any of them and I'm pretty sure I'll be the only white person there. I've been in that position before but this is his family so I want them to like me. I've only been to one in my life for my dad's side but I was too young to remember it.

We have reunions from time to time...I always look forward to going and then am disappointed because I forget how annoying my family members are.....

On Saturday we're doing the obligatory tour of Dealy Plaza and all things Kennedy related. Then doing a tour/lunch at Southfork Ranch where the TV show "Dallas" was filmed. Oh and they'll be busing us to and from these places.

I'm so thankful, I have the best family. Everyone gets along great. My biological, step and in law families are all wonderful.

But I fear the unknown. I don't know how these country folk will recieve a pasty white Yankee.

HA! I need to document it all this weekend. He's from Texas by the way.

We're handing out these family history booklets I helped put together. They have an amazing amount of documented history for a southern black family and the first paragraph starts off by stating the first descendent they have a record of being the "illegitimate son of his slave owner". He was freed and married another freed slave. They were both mulattos. AWKWARD!

They are different slides. The Cha Cha Slide is just a little more black. I never knew the Electric Slide because I'm terrified of line dances and was always the onlooker when it would be done at dances and such.

There were also Soul Train lines so yes, people were getting served left and right. I did not partake in said lines.

Mouthwateringly good. I've never tasted anything like his family's BBQ. Both his Alabama and Louisiana family. I actually prefer the links but ribs are a very close second. Plus his grandma's potato salad is so amazing. Stop making me hungry!
