Trina Thompson, a 27-year-old graduate of Monroe College in the Bronx, N.Y., is suing her alma mater for $70,000 in tuition money, the Associated Press reports. Since her graduation with an information technology degree in April, Thompson has not been able to find work. And Thompson says the school hasn't helped in the job-searching process, either.

It should be dismissed right away. No sane judge would permit this type of suit, because it would create more litigation that could be dealt with.

I wish more people would sue their college to get their tuition back. Then maybe a bunch of the colleges would just go out of business.

It's bad, but not as bad as they make it sound. She's a moron, but it hinges on their supposedly not doing their job as far as helping with job placement. Like, it's not that she didn't get a job, but that they didn't try to help at all.

How come tuitions are one the only things that cost more every year if college doesn't even get you a job?

You buy an education, not a job, regardless of any career assistance programs the college offers. Not to mention that she's suing 3 months after she graduated in a recession.

Yeah but the economy has impacted almost everything in a negative way except for colleges. Those smart smarties are getting all of our cash.

I do not know if they promised to put a certain amount of effort into helping her or if they then gave her that level of assistance.

Not necessarily.... (http://www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2009/06/harvard.html)

For years, administrators at Harvard University could throw money at anything that tickled their fancy. A new medical school building for $260 million? Sure. A massive, Robert A.M. Stern—designed addition to Harvard Law School? No problem. One of the most sweeping financial aid initiatives ever undertaken? Consider it done.

Of course, that was before the money dried up.

Now, Vanity Fair’s Nina Munk finds America’s oldest university suddenly at risk of not being able to keep the lights on. Over the past year, Harvard’s endowment has collapsed (it lost $8 billion between last July and October), its fundraising has declined, and its construction cranes have been idled. Gripped by the worst economic crisis in its history, Harvard is in trouble, and no one can decide who’s to blame.

so, their endowment is still nearly 30 billion? they'll be ok.

The article seems a bit vague. What does "they have not tried enough to help me" even mean? What was promised to her? What has been done?

Dude!

this is just a ploy

it plays out by some employer
who hears about it on the news
and gives the jerk a job
with alot of fanfare

the biatch gets the job
plus her 15 minutes of fame
the employer gets some PR
and everybody is happy

all a rouse

They lost that 8 billion dollars in 4 months, and some speculate they lost closer to 18 billion in those same 4 months, and they have 11 billion dollars on top of that in unfunded commitments.
