why is it that many people have two separate tables for eating food? to me it's just a big waste of space. why can't we just have one big table? two tables is just redundant. discuss.

You nailed it, they have the space. Space is a vacuum that will be filled with something.

This is also the concept behind the Italian Family room.

my kitchen table is small, my dining table fits at least 4 more people

So what is the point of having the kitchen table in the first place? couldnt you just have some more functional counter space? maybe a little office for you to relax in

A counter in the middle of the room? That's an island, which is really just a table with no space for your legs.

wouldn't work with my kitchen layout.
My dining table is also in my living room, just a divided area... I don't see the need to always bring all smelly food into the living room... one of the main reason I had a pass through closed up when they built the house.

We used to have a kitchen table and a dining room table. I got rid of the kitchen table and now the space is used for our laptop and bill paying area. We use the dining room anyhow. We are kinda fancy like that.

Either way, I'd imagine the splinters are awful.

I have a coffee table, and a chess table.
I can't eat at the chess table, cause it always has pieces on it.

I generally don't eat at home, though.

It's nice that your clients buy you dinner. That makes you classy.

Well, were already in the Taco Bell parking lot.
Might as well get a Chalupa out of it.

I now have a dining room. Probably will only be used for holidays. I may rent it to pornographers to be used as a set.

We use the kitchen table for everyday dining.

We use the dining room table for special occasions when my wife insists on using the "good" china which can't be put in the dishwasher.
