Couldnt agree more w/ this. Ive tried to get people to listen to the show in the last 8 mo, and...well they just dont get it. Im a loyal fan and always will be, but godspeed to anyone who picks up the show the way it is currently constituted and loves it.

the show was local we did not have to deal with the rest of the country "how r u ron callers?".
ron and fez used to be a dirty dark secret cult.
now its all over the country and we get hick callers who don't get the show flow.

I have tried in vain to get my girlfriend hooked on the show. When I play old WNEW or WJFK shows she will laugh and is entertained. When I play the new shows, all I get is "why do you listen? It's so boring. What's so funny about this?" I then have to explain to her that there haven't been any jokes in the past hour, that's why it hasn't been funny. I don't even bother getting into why. Now, I just listen in my headphones.

I hate to say it but this goes for me too. My wife and I used to listen to R&F when we drove around DC together. She had just moved from the UK and was surprised she could find this kind of humor in the US. She didn't get in to the show like I did but she enjoyed it when it was on.

Recently we were on a road trip and played R&F. Maybe it was just a particularly bad stretch but she couldn't believe it was the same show. Ron was saying something idiotic about the Iranian demonstrations and the little amount of attempted humor just fell flat. I know he was playing up his ignorant Philly character with "why the fuck should we care about what goes on in that shithole of country where they don't even have indoor plumbing" but it is hard to explain to a casual listener. My wife looked at me like "you really are enjoying this?". Then Fez said something and Dave and it was just not a good show.

I know we don't need yet another post saying the show is not quite in top form at the moment. It did make a me a little sad, though, remembering when I would want to turn people on to the show rather than being embarrassed and defensive for liking it.
