View Full Version : Say Goodbye Dave

This whole thing between Fez and Dave is a brilliant plan by one Ron Bennington to get fresh blood into the producer seat on Ron and Fez. (with the Fez assist)
How many time has Ron tried to push Dave into another show or career path. Dave can do another show or be the pitchman, but Dave is reluctant to cut the Ron Fez umbilical cord. Does Dave think he can be a producer for RnF forever?

Nah, Dave is too fuckin funny. I love the idea that Ron & Fez drive their producers totally nuts, I think I would last about 2 days. I think Dave is very funny and Ron should let the leash loose a little on him.
I actually think Earl should be back. We need some of that conflict.

I do think Dave is funny, and good for the show. Just think he needs to further his career.
Also think he is crazy and irresponsible.

There have been job postings on the XM site recently for on-air talent.
Here is one such posting:

But, I think this recent saga will drag out for a while.

I think there is literally nothing you could do to Dave to get him to quit the show, and almost nothing you could dangle in front of him to entice him to leave.
I honestly believe if Sirius said they want Sam and Dave for 3-7 weekdays Dave would only do it if he could stay a producer on R&F.

I'm pretty sure Dave is already crazy, so the whole drive the producer crazy until he leaves thing will not work on Dave.
He's in for the looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong haul.

Unless you go after his wife. I think the inclusion of Casey has been thlowest point of this whole situation. The woman has literally done nothing to Fez except serve as some point of paranoia.
I would not let anyone go after my wife like Fez has. A very low blow - it has certainly dinimished him in my eyes.

Doesn't Ron refuse to ever bring up his wife on the show other than to say the two of them went to a screening or dinner or something because he said once you start bringing family onto the show they are then fair game?
Dave's brought Casey onto the show and she brought herself onto the show several times through PalTalk and messages to Ron, etc.
Dave should stand up for her at all costs, but I don't think it's right to say she's off limits to Fez especially if the two of them have had conflicts in the past.

She was brought into the studio once by HTG for the engagement ring. She is as much a part of the radio show as Keisha (ie not at all). She doe snot come intot he studio and yet now she is considered fair game by one of the hosts. Not cool, not nice.
I don't think Dave is pushing this and may even be backing off this but if you do not defend the mother of your children then who do you defend.
Fez knows this - very low, and again not nice. Dave is the loyalest guy I know but this could be too much.
BTW - the last thing I want is the excellent radio of Dave on the Ron and Fez show to end.

I hear what you're saying and I love Dave but when I said Dave brought her "on the show" I didn't mean physically. I meant he talks about her a lot and she may not call in but there have been plenty of times she's involved herself on the show via text messages, e mails, PalTalk back in the day while the show was on the air.
I'm just saying. I don't really care either way and I love all three of these guys and its the best radio show I've ever heard. I just don't think it's so "low" of Fez to go after her the way he'd go after other fringe people around the show (ie. that Chuckwagon guy he had a war with, or Sheepy or whatever). She's Dave's wife but she also seems to be a--for lack of a better word--character on the Ron and Fez Show.

They went after ET, too. And Dave went after other people's wives and girlfriends including people who didn't want involvement with the shows.

Seems like a lot of dollies are being chucked out fo a lot of prams as people's feelings are getting hurt.
Not a lot of folks are acting like men - more like spineless eejits.
Only people losing will be the listeners.
One way to solve this - get Ron and Fez back on New York Radio in the evenings.

Yesterday was like the Radio Rodeo. I stuck with the show for 14 minutes, then I was out.
Only one way to solve this.

Exactly. Their mid-day show was bad at WNEW because of the shitty callers. When they did the "fastest hour" split shift, most of the time they didn't even bother taking calls during the day, and this time slot has always had terrible callers ever since they started on XM.
Their short stint on FREE FM was some of their best segments in the last 4 years. Why? Better callers.
I definitely want to keep them on satellite radio, but I think a move to an evening shift would do the show (and Fez) a world of good. That, and give out another number for callers in the NY area in addition to the 866-ron0fez. That way they'd know for sure where the call was coming from.

I never really understand this arguement although Ive heard it for years. Can someone explain why the callers would be better in the evening? Do people have more time in the early evening/drive time to call in? I for one would have less time to call in than I already have
Isn't the problem that they dont have a dedicated phone screener who can weed out the bad callers. I assume that since the show is national that they must be getting more calls then when it was local. A good phone screener would be able to fix this. The old days the listeners were fewer so the callers were fewer so the same "good" caller likely got through more often.

I am not sure, but I think from my anecdotal evidence that it is indeed true. I also think that with satellite it is a larger section of the country that calls, and when it was 92.3 it was only NYC area. This board is mainly NYC, so i think the comedy and the timing seems funnier to us.
O&A did a segment about 6 weeks ago where southerns called in with their funny sayings, like tighter then a squirrels nuts or whatever crazy shit they say down there. To people in this area, it seems weird and out of place, but down there it is funny and topical. The great, or not so great, thing about satellite radio is you get a part of the whole country.
As for dave, he is so loyal to the show and loves it so much, he is going to have to take a lot more shit or get a great job offer in order to leave. the kid just loves R&F, regardless of what they put him through.

Most people have day jobs. I think former Cubs Manager Lee Elia said it best:
"The motherfuckers don't even work, that's why they're (able to call the show). They ought to get a fucking job and find out what it's like to go out and earn a fucking living. Eighty-five percent of the fuckin' world is working. The other fifteen (are calling in) here."
Oh, and most people don't drink from 11 - 3. Alcohol tends to lessen some people's inhibitions about calling a national show.
They also used to get a lot of good lines from instant messages.

Unfortunately, eveing talk radio is a tough sell in this non-talk radio atmosphere. O&A survived as long as they could but Ron and Fez were really the one big winner in that maket. Why do you think the ring as paid for?
Ron and Fez can dominate in a New York Market in a minimal spend marketing department. They generate their own market, they get advertisers to love them, they can transform a dead end slot into a gold mine but no program director will take that on.
Fez and the rest of the crew thrive in the evenings. Ron is happier, the show is happier and Fez has always been better inthe evening - he is too antsy in the mornings.
Such is the idiocy of Radio Programming.

The best Ron and Fez listeners/callers are barely awake during the day. They are lunatics in the truest sense. Late-nighters who don't get their bearings until 8 pm.
