I didn't find a thread with their show's name in the title so I created this one.

If it needs to be collapsed into another so be it.

I usually like this show and tend to bounce back and forth between them, Boomer & Carton, Imus and shows on Sirius.

What drives me crazy is there ridiculous morning zoo bits the attempt.

The eating contests, the bets w/ " wacky " wagers, etc ...

I also can not stand how the refer to Twitter and like school girls. They still to this day giggle, well mostly Greenberg, when they say Tweeted or Tweet.

I also loathe the way they present their guests.

Whether it be Greenberg trying to sound hip ( like referring to Ludicris as Luda ) or just the non-sports guests in general.

So this morning they have on Ashton Kutcher and Greenberg introduces him as " .. one of the most popular actors in Hollywood ... ".

Is he f-ing kidding me ?

I think the 1st 5 people that post in this thread will have been in as many " popular " films as that talentless hack.

For the most part I like hearing them discuss certain current event topics but many times it's just unlistenable.

I can't listen to them, especially since they are one of the worst offenders of the ESPN cliche of spending entire shows on one topic.

But they're worse than ever these days since they are simulcast on television. The month-long gimmick of the non-athlete Mike filmed in a cafeteria rambling about dream jobs made me turn the channel every time.

I've heard a little of that douche's show, and it was patently obvious to me that he was taking positions to just drive calls, and he didn't believe a word he was saying.

Now, obviously, all radio hosts do this at times (shit, even the show this board is dedicated to), but at least don't make it so damn obvious that that's what you're doing.

Colin Cowherd is the WORST show Ive ever listened to. Ive hated that guy ever since I heard him say "The NFL Draft is better than the actual NFL season"

Really? Is it? Fuckin asshole.

Mike and Mike are ok I guess. But I only listen for maybe a total of 10mins a week in between commercials on other channels.

I used to listen to Mike and Mike every morning 5 or 6 years ago and I havn't listened in a long while. I used to really like them. The problem I had was they talk for 5 minutes, go to commercial for 5 minutes, talk for 4 minutes, Bob Pikozy for 2 minutes, commercial for 6 minutes...repeat. It's frustrating.

I can maybe give them 10 minutes a day depending on the guest/topic.

But I think Max Kellerman was the worst radio guy ever.

I would disagree with practically everything that came out of his mouth probably because he contradicted himself constantly.

Scott Van Pelt and Doug Gotlieb are really good on ESPN other then that its all suck bags

Mike and Mike are the worst, try this next time, count the number of times that they say "Mike and Mike in the morning" in one show, i believe there is a youtube clip out there with Greenberg saying it 73 times in a 4 hour show

Probably why the junkies crush their ratings in DC

He is the one that played colege basketball correct ?

My problem with the whole ESPN radio is the constant teasers. "When we come back from commercial I will tell you about a play in baseball you never witnessed before" Enough.... If you are good I won't leave after the commercial break... the teasers tick me off I usually go back to wfan.

I'm also not a big fan of some of the substitues or " go to " 3rd chair people.

Case in point - Chris Carter.

It also drives me mad when they, actually mostly Greenberg, gets so mexcited to have Bill Walton on.

Is there a guy in the world that says so much yet it means so little ?

Can't stand Kay, he's a hump and a douchebag and he really went after Joe Torre when he left the Yankees. Slurp Slurp how's that, Boss?

And, that fucking opening song is the worst thing I've ever heard, barely worthy of YouTube. Oh, and he quotes Billy Joel at the end of the show. What a stroke.

I mentioned it in a previous post but I hate the show they call " New York Baseball Tonight ".

It's basically a replay of the interviews w/ Girardi and Manuel that kay had where Don L pretends he's asking the questions.

Then they go to stadium interviews w/ Larry Hardesty and whover does the other team.

They ask the most ridiculpus questions and interview the most irrelevant people sometimes.

He is not a nationally syndicated show on the ESPN radio network

Their official ESPN lineup is:

Mike and Mike, then Colin Cowherd, Then Scott Van Pelt, then Gottlieb

Trust me i have lived and worked in many states and listen to a lot of sports talk radio Micheal Kay is not on nationally

If one of those shows doesnt air then its a local market show, for instance when i lived in Ohio i got the Dayton Sports fix in the middle of the Gottlieb show, in Indianapolis its their local evening drive time show, in LA Mike and Mike arent even that big because they air so early for the West Coast that Cowherd is the real morning show, and most of the afternoon and evening drive shows are local done, same thing in DC where they have the John Thompson show instead of Gottlieb

From Wikipedia:

After signing a national letter of intent with Notre Dame, Gottlieb was the starting point guard for Notre Dame during the 1995-1996 college basketball season. He started all but four games for Notre Dame during that season. During Gottlieb's freshman year at Notre Dame, he stole credit cards from a roommate and fraudulently charged over $900 to those cards. Subsequently, he was kicked off the Notre Dame basketball team and eventually convicted of misdemeanor fraud. Gottlieb then earned an Associate of Arts in business at Golden West College.[1][2]

I thought he eventually ended up @ Oklahoma St ?

Yeah, he did. Continuing from above:

Gottlieb then transferred to Oklahoma State University and took over as point guard for an OSU team that was 17-15 two consecutive years and the team immediately returned to the NCAA tournament. Gottlieb was the 1998 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and Oklahoma State went to three consecutive NCAA tournaments including the 2000 Elite Eight. Gottlieb was a member of Oklahoma State's basketball team from 1997-2000, leading the nation in assists as a junior after averaging 8.8 assists per game - .2 assists better than his senior season, when he ranked second in the nation with 8.6 assists per game. He currently ranks 10th all-time in NCAA career assists with 947.[3]

Gottlieb graduated from OSU in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in marketing, and, at the time, he held every assist record at OSU and in the Big 12 conference.

This thread has kinda become to ESPM show dumping ground for me so I'll post this here.

I'm working from home today and I have ESPN First Take on and it's worse today than usual.

I just listened to some guy, maybe a former football player, do a " Coach Richie " bit where he pretended to give a pep talk to NFL teams that are struggling.

It was one of the worst things I've ever seen/heard on a sports show.

Now the debate part has Jalen Rose debating Skip Bayless and it's as bad as you can imagine.

When commenting on whether or not Granderson would be good in NY he basically just read the back of his baseball card.

I would've been better off going into work.

Just switched to The Herd which has Eric K guest hosting.

Much better.

Yep I do not know why ESPN is so bad. One of the morning guys made the lock of the year in the Dolphins Bucs game a few weeks ago. He basically told you to bet on the Fish all guaranteed. The Fish did not cover. If you go on the radio and make a lock of the year and you are wrong. PAck your bags.

So last week sometime they came up w/ some gimmick to start calling one of the off air people " Reavis " instead of what they've been calling him.

I didn't bother to listen to why they gave him this name but eventually it came to them giving him a song.

OK so maybe it was a 1 day thing.

But no they're still going on about it today.

Mostly Greenburg.

The bits seems ridiculously unfunny and the song is just as bad.

They, again mostly Greenburg, are laughing like it's the funniest thing they've heard.

So f-ing awful.

Vitale has totally become his act now, that whole "PTP'er DIAPER DANDY BAY-BEE" bullshit.

Ever hear the clip where O&A put him on the air without telling him, and he sounds really subdued, almost sleepy, "OK, when do we go on?" but as soon as they make it clear he's on the air, his voice rises about 50 decibels and he's doing the whole "O&A SHOW IT'S AWESOME BAY-BEE" act? What a clown.

Why is it they feel the need to insert ridiculous, morning zoo type " humor " into their discussions ?

There's no way even 2% of their most loyal listeners find that nonsense amusing.

No other sports show that I ever listen to even attempts that so I never understand why it's tried here.

This morning they have a good thing going centering on the bad call in the Lions/Bears game and they derail it w/ some horse$hit " comedy ".

They played a parody of how a ref could interpret calls. It was horrific. But I guess there was some guy somewhere slappin his knees on his way to work saying man these guys are incorrigible!

Why do I listen? Its 15 minutes in the morning while I am getting ready, and the only other option is Boomer and Carton which is unlistenable. Sorry..

I am not debating ratings, track records, name recognition or anything of that nature.

I'm giving my opinion and it's that he is brutal. His knowledge of sports is minimal at best. When they venture off of sports he is even worse. His attempts at "guy talk" aren't funny or though provoking, they are just mindless drivel.

My point wasn't that Dave should have a show on ESPN or WFAN, my point is this is a microcosm of the much larger issue w/ radio. In a medium which a no talent like Carton,(or a Scott and Todd, or Nick Cannon, or David Lee Roth, etc etc) is working for a 50,000 watt in market one and someone with as much talent as Dave is working on small college station in market 50 is doomed.

if i listen to francessa (this happens with R&F too) there is so much dead air sometimes right when i tune in, that i think the volume is on mute, turn it up and then it is blasting. he does not talk for 3-4 seconds sometimes.

Did any of you guys ctach it last week when they were going on about Peyton Hillis ?

Fat Mike was talking about how big he was and it was uncomfortably gay.

I just saw the guy in today's game and I din't think his arms ( one of the things they were going on about ) looked any bigger than the average football player.

you are fucking nuts. this kid is one of those fullbacks that has speed and athleticism of a half back but power, size lights people up like a linebacker.

I didn't say a damn thing about whether or not the kid was fast or athletic.

What I did say if you back and reread it was that in my opinion his arms ( the thing which Fat Mike was verbally jerking off about ) didn't look any bigger than your average football player.

It's bad enough that Steven A Smith has a regularly scheduled show but now they let him fill in for others ?

The last thing I wanna hear in the morning is that jerkoff.

He makes me want to turn on Imus and listen to that awful impersonation guy.

To show how ridiculous these guys are last week the mentioned that they were going to dress up for Halloweem.

Their choices were Austin Powers characters, Star Wars characters or some other currently irrelevant character.

So I turn on the tv yesterday and there they are dressed like Austin Powers characters.

Really ???

That's as current as you could get with your crazy morning zoo show ?

Idiots.

they were on SC last night and golic picked his top 5 teams in the NFL. 5th he had the GIANTS (this was last night, after the huge win vs the dolphins) Greenberg said something like lets see what happens after NE plays the giants this weekend.

I SWEAR, golic goes, i dont care about any of that, i dont care what happens on the field, the giants are my 5th team

I dont care what happens on the field, Rutgers has NEVER EVER lost a game

Greenberg this morning said that Cam Newton was a " once in a lifetime " player like Michael Vick.

How could a player be once in a lifetime that's playing at the same time as another guy that's like him ?

Maybe he was counting lifetimes in dog years.

These clowns are talking about Urban Meyer taking over at Oh St and mention that they don't know how successful his spread offense can be in the Big 10 w/ the cold weather. They say he's used to running it in FL w/ a warm climate.

I guess they forgot that he coached at Utah ( even though they mentioned Alex Smith ) where as far as I know it's not sunny and 90 degrees every day.

Greenburg also tries to make a point that maybe Ok St shouldn't be penalized so much for their loss because of the " heavy hearts they had " after the plane crash.

I'm not trying to insensetive but what the hell does that have to do w/ anything. A TE for ARK dies on Sunday should LSU forfeit because they feel bad for them ?

Lastly, to show how ridiculously out of touch these guys are they, were talking about " WKRP In Cincinnati " ( a TV show from the late 70's/early 80's for those that don't know ) and were going on about how funny some dumb bit was. Greenburg was saying things like " That's one of the funniest things ever in TV history. "

I have got to get my Sirius replaced. Damn my laziness !!!

Not to mention Urban can run many different forms of offense, it's not like he hasn't or can adjust. My thoughts are he will abandon some of the spread but not can it entirely. I guess it really depends on his players in house and their tools. Over time the team will become more of what he wants and the O will probably transform to a less traditional ground based attack highly used in the B10.
