Why is it that great comedians like John Candy have to die, while knuckleheads like Jim Belushi are still getting TV shows?

John Candy was one of the funniest guys ever. I dare you to watch "Uncle Buck" and not run the full gamut of emotions.

Thoughts?

Kurt Cobain: dead
Chipmunk-face-I'm-too-special-to-tour-Eddie-Vedder: alive

Not fair.

Uncle Buck rocks. Big pancakes and cold sores always make me laugh.

One of my heroes. He was a great talent, and even though he made many bad films, he made them watchable.
I loved him on SCTV, and many of his films. He left us too soon.

Trains, Planes, and Automobiles and Only the Lonely-- two of my favorite films!

Chris Farley is dead, yet Chevy Chase remains alive and well. NOT FAIR!

Oh, yeah: CANADIAN! It's a game my college roommate and I used to play while watching TV. Whenever a Canadian came on, the first person to yell CANADIAN! won. This explains both my G.P.A. and my lack of dates.

John Lennon: dead
Julian Lennon: alive

Not fair.

John Candy was awesome. Stripes, Uncle Buck, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. are probably 3 of his best. Even summer rental and armed and dangerous are b-movies they are still funny to watch even after a hundred times.

I liked when he was on sctv and played Rocky, fighting in the ring with a huge sandwich.

Time to make the donuts!

why is it that the funniest
comedians are or were
overweight?
My favorites are:
John Belushi, John Candy, Sam
Kinison and Chris Farley.
All died way too young.

Can't think of the name but he was a Security Guard with the hairy guy from SCTV...

Enjoyed his comedy!

Funkman, I think that was "Armed and Dangerous" and it had Eugene Levy and *sigh* Meg Ryan in it.

I enjoyed Candy in Canadian Bacon. I think it was a brilliant stroke to have a Canadian play an American who "despises" Canada.

Wow, you guys are forgetting the best dead comedian there is; Phil Hartman. Get on the ball people!!!

PS I never liked Eddie Vedder and I don't know what the big deal is.

Phil Hartman. Come on now.

Candy blows Hartman away. Besides the voices on the simpsons what has Hartman done that was remotely funny.

Sorry I thought this was old school. The 1990's are not old school.

Sorry NewYorkdragons,

I was not trying to slam you but, Phil Hartman is not in the same class as John Candy.

I'm not denying how good Candy was (Even his cameo in Home Alone was priceless,) but Phil left us with miles of hysterical stuff on SNL (Clinton on "Cops", Clinton at McDonald's, Ed McMahon)

Jafter, I won't even mention Newsradio.

One of my all-time favorite John Candy bits was on SCTV. He played a Rocky-like boxer called "Hefty Neil" and it spoofed all of the Rocky bits, all the training, the running, etc.

When it finally came to the fight, he was knocked out with one punch right after the opening bell rung.

That bit always stayed with me.

Plus, my sister always refers to me as "Uncle Buck" whenever I babysit my nephew.

Giant pancakes are always funny.

So basically you're saying ratings determine the quality of a show. I suppose you think Friends is edgy comedy? By that same token, was The Critic a bad show?

no, I agree with you Friends sucks also. 6 idiots sharing 2 apartments acting like total idiots.

Sorry I could not get into the critic. I am not a big john lovitz fan.

I enjoyed almost all of candy's movie except for the one that was like a cheesy western type movie with matthew perry. That was bad.

Wasn't that Chris Farley with Matthew Perry doing a Lewis and Clark type movie...called Almost Heroes...Don't remember John Candy in that?

John Candy died on the set of Wagons East with Richard Lewis. That was the western he was in.
