We all waited for the merger to pass through but lets just come right out and say it SIRIUS BLOWS!!! Today Ron said that when he and Fez did the show this past midnight there were callers that didn't know O&A were even on the service!!!! What the fuck is that? Do any of you not know about Howard being available on XM. Get Ron and Fez and Opie and Anthony some promotion. Do you want this satellite thing to catch on? Or are you only concerned about one channel? SIRIUS BLOWS. XM 4 LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

The music channels are awful. Every fucking dj has to talk between the songs and "hit the post". It's really annoying.
But Sirius is run by radio guys, of course its going to sound like regular radio.

I tried to have an open mind as far as the music channels goes, and have come to the conclusion that they now suck. The playlists have shrunk so much that you hear repeats all the time.

I wanted to be fair and give it some time before judging the new service.
The music is now completely like what I didn't like about Sirius pre-merger. Mass appeal, more repeats, less artists, no more deep cuts. It sounds like regular radio. On my phone I don't even bother with XM now, I just listen to internet radio to get what I want.
I lost several channels outright or only to have them replaced by a merger of two or more genres just playing the hits. Oh I shot the sherrif, haven't heard this since yesterday.
For 202 I had hoped they'd be included on both XM and Sirius doubling their potential audience and then in turn improving the quality of the callers. No and they don;t even promote 202 on Sirius for those who might want to subscribe.
What matters to me is the studio stinks, when guests come in and 99% never heard of O&A and R&F the old studio at least wowed them into maybe thinking these guys deserved respect. Now they're in a tiny office studio no bigger than the 100% music channels. It must be embarrassing, Sirius should do the right thing and knock down at least one wall.
I can't think of one thing I like better about the merger. It's defiantly a takeover and they're just waiting for all things XM to disappear. If it wasn't for 202 I'd think I was subscribed to Sirius.
And get Jason Ellis off the channel, it's embarrassing to have such a forced humor hacky amateur sharing the channel with Ron.

They spent a lot of money on Howard, so it's in the best interest of the people who approved his deal that he's perceived as being the biggest thing on either platform, and doing whatever they can to make that a reality. Since every show & station on the best of XM package probably doesn't add up to a third of what the Stern show is costing, those people would rather hurt the company a little by not selling too many of them, rather than making money for the company, but looking like assholes by selling more of them.

Looking back at re-upping my sub for a year back in March, I guess I'm OK with it now. Was kinda on the fence at first, but hey it only costs less than 50 cents a day and I have definitely gotten a lot of entertainment value out of it. But the merger... meh. I prefer pre-merger XM. All the corporate bullshit aside, I really don't see what was in it for me as a consumer. Big waste of time and money if you ask me. Two competing companies would have kept each other sharp and trying to out-do each other.

The changes to the music channels don't bother me because I don't listen to any of them - with the exception of Little Steven's Underground Garage, and Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Show. I really only listen to satellite radio for R+F, O+A, and Stern.
My biggest problem is the takeover of the 202 weekend shows with the 'best of the week' format. Used to be, if you missed a show during the week, you could catch it on the weekend in it's entirety. Now the weekend shows are no longer there to reward the faithful listeners, but rather to entice new listeners to tune in during the week.
Understandable as a marketing tool, but a pain in the ass for me.

No one knows Opie and Anthony outside of New England. They're a regional act. Stern, Martha Stewart, Dylan, Oprah, MLB, NFL, Bob Edwards - all national brands with national followings.
O&A are minor league talent who had their cup of coffee in the big leagues from time to time. The production of Stern's show is light years better than the amateur hires on the O&A staff.

O&A have the money to pay for higher quality producers. They don't consider production to be an integral part of their show's success and it's evident in the lack of quality from The Opie and Anthony Show. The best part of O&A are when new comedians come in. Norton, Opie, and Anthony have a tired, predictable act.

Why did this turn into yet ANOTHER thread to bash O&A? They're a national show, they were on WNEW and they were recently until the entire face of FM radio changed. That's documented. If you don't like them, don't listen.
The point was, O&A are the high profile XM edgy talk show and a Sirius listener didn't know they were even available due to the merger. Sirius loves Stern, there's no denying that. And maybe they should. But O&A are one of their commodities, why aren't they trying to use them to get more money from Sirius subscribers. Christ, we know PLENTY about Stern over on the XM platform. You couldn't get away from his commercials when they were really pushing the "Best of Sirius" bullshit. It all just ends up sounding like the old days when Mel loved Howard and shit on O&A. So far the show hasn't suffered that much but it makes me very nervous.
And I was bitching about the horrible Sirius music channels years before the merger. I heard them and shut them the fuck off in favor of FM, they suck. It's JUST like an FM station, but really worse. There's huge 5 minute talk blocks of whatever washed up DJ they have on at that time. Martha Quinn went on for like 7 minutes once in between songs on their 80's station. Why do I want to hear that? At least I know at the end of a short FM commercial break I'll go right back into music.
The merger was 100% hostile take over. Sirius stamped out everything XM that they could and gave us the Sirius product like it was equal, which it wasn't.
IF they ever drop ROn and Fez or O&A I'm gone. Period, I don't need the rest of their bullshit.

Regarding RnF,
way back in WNEW days we had drinking show at least every Friday then a couple more throughout the month, emensely entertaining.
then comes xm where the drinking shows are fewer but still hugely entertaining
now with the merger, no drinking shows.

I did away with my subs not long after the merger, the music channels are what I listened to when they were replaying the O&A show or on the weekend when the same old shit was being replayed. I favored Audible and Paltalk (although I hate it now) to listen and still do.
Fuck Sirius, fuck Mel and fuck Hoo Hoo.
Still, the move to Sirius has only happened very recently. So far the adjustments to the new setting and management seem to be still in effect. As I see it, it could be worse, with the possible bankruptcy/buying of XM, but the hand-holding by management is really hindering the shows potential. I also miss the live audience and the rowdiness of them being
basically to themselves. The shake-up in the staffs also has made a big effect on the shows. Also with the political and economic climate, people attuned to partisan politics have become inundated with political news instead of light news which has, it seems, and which has turned them off.

Yeah, it seems like the features that made satellite radio an appealing alternative to FM have really faded since I started listening to XM three years ago. I wonder how much longer it will be before Sirius starts selling ad time on music channels.

Mel needs a raise and to resign Howie, so not long.
I felt XM was a nice mix of popular songs you'd recognize with a deep cut that occasionally made you look at the screen to see what it was. In other words, very different than FM and worth paying for.
Now, not so much. If 202 gets fucked with I'm out.
Pretty much everything I listen to is an XM holdover.

To be honest, I listen to none of the Sirius content, except OCCASIONALLY, I'll flip on Mad Dog's show.
But even the stations they took over and filled with Sirius people, like Lucy (now Litihum), Ethel (now Alt Nation), and Fred (now 1st Wave) are all horrendous. The playlists absolutely suck since the merger.
I'll probably never cancel as long as they have MLB, but it would be a serious test of my resolve if they booted 202, or the boys left on their own.

I have zero faith that this company cares two shits about either show. granted they are still on air for a reason but the zero support is absurd. No EP for 8 months and no respect for the highest rated show on xm doesnt leave me feeling comfortable in the slightest.
and yes the music is absolute dog shit. the rotations are just like fm now its just sad

I tried to have an open mind as far as the music channels goes, and have come to the conclusion that they now suck. The playlists have shrunk so much that you hear repeats all the time.
I rarely listen to anything but 202 or baseball anymore.
I agree whole-heartedly. Since Sirius took over, I rarely listen to music channels anymore...the deejays suck and they talk over every song with their stupid music facts, etc.
Mine stays on 202...and occasionally the baseball and comedy channels.

I only have XM Online, and I only use it to listen to 202. If there was music channels I liked, I might still listen to them, but I have last.fm, pandora, etc. to listen to.

I'm still mad that Fred was replaced by that shitty 1st Wave station.
ME TOO!!!!
I randomly call and complain about the poor programming choices. Does no good, but make me feel better.

The production of Stern's show is light years better than the amateur hires on the O&A staff.
THAT is actually my problem with Stern... (that and his 4 months vacation every year)
The lack-of-production, the lack-of-glossy-ness, is what I enjoy...
When Howard got happy (divorced, horse-faced girlfriend, living-the-life) he started to suck, big time... SLICK PRODUCTION? that's not what it's all about...
Imus had his day, Stern had his day (I loved them both)... live in the past? go ahead.. just don't think of yourself as a groundbreaker...
and the way they make use of re-runs.. I'm sure you could get-up-to-speed with Howard going-ons in a very short time... ad nauseum in fact...
ON SIRIUS... WEEKEND NON-REPLAYS ? I MISS THEM ALOT
(ron and fez is THE show anyway)

The playlists on Pandora and Slacker are weak.
Now, granted, they're free (for now anyway), and if you want to hear something specific, you can just plug in the band, but as someone who has sat and listened to Pandora for quite a while, when you just leave a station on, the playlists are pretty uninspired.
Now, Sirius has gotten substantial tighter with their playlists on a lot of stations, but still offer fairly deep ones on a few of the XM holdovers.
I will say that I wouldn't pay for Sirius's music channels if it was just that vs. Pandora, because it's not that big a gap to justifiy the cost, but I do think Sirius is a little better.
