if the body is constantly making new cells all the time and every 6 months you basically have a new body

what causes the tattoo to stay on your body and not fade away eventually to no longer being there ??

do the new cells reproduce exactly what the old one was including the ink of the tat ??

It's a very perceptive question!

It's true that epithelial layers of skin slough off rapidly; the lower layers change much more slowly, however, and the connective tissue even slower.

If you only deposited ink in the epidermis, it would indeed disappear over time (see how fast an "indelible" ink wears off if you put some on your skin). Depositing it deeper in the basal layers of the skin ensures that it'll hang around. Without a mechanism for recognizing ink as a foreign substance and removing it, the ink has nowhere to go. Old cells die and new cells grow up around the ink...you'll note that even the best tats fade and change over time, and I propose that this is partially the mechanism for it.

Did you know that 'Tattau' is a Tahitian word that means 'to mark'?

fun fact

related question: why doesn't the body see the ink as a foreign substance?? and why doesn't the ink 'run' or otherwise get displaced from its original location?
