Are you people following this Libya thing?

Looks like some people and countries
i formerly admired
traded the terrorist prisoner
for Libyan oil rights

there will be plausible deniability
for a while
but 8-ball says
all signs point to British duplicity
and then getting played by the Libyans
after the fact to boot

England used to be my favorite place
no more

i am glad they are being over-run
by moslems

fuck you England you're getting
what you deserve

To an adoring frenzy

its important to know that if you kill a bunch of people and receive a life sentence

that youll be released if it looks like you might die

especially if youve already done most of your time (say 8 years)

patrick swayze was supposed to die in 3 days, nine months ago.

does this guy get locked back up if he doesnt die?

Apparently some countries have no problems at all making deals with terrorists.

Most of them, to be honest, if there's some financial benefit to be reaped.

Although he was convicted there is some pretty compelling evidence that he was innocent and may have been a sacrificial lamb.

and while I understand all the vengeance seekers out there ...showing compassion to an evil world may be a sign of strength not weakness.

From what I read many of the victims on the plane were American college students.

Why hasn't there been much of an outcry by the American government ?

We should release any/every IRA prisoner that we're holding and provide them a plane ticket right back to the good ole UK.

I did also read about him possibly being innocent but why put him in jail at all if you have doubt ?

The supposed 'terrorist' is dying of prostate cancer. Letting him free is reasonable.

he was free

free to live, free to eat, to read, to learn,

free to write letters, watch tv, converse.

free to pray,(which he did) free to apologize, (he never did)

we were just were keeping him away from planes and innocent people
because hes showed that he cant be trusted around them

is it more just for a man to die at home or in jail?

in the end its the same death, doesnt matter where you are

Ireland and Scotland are two different entities and although under the Crown their judicial systems are separate. So why release Irish terrorists to provoke Scotland?

Well the issue is mostly between the IRA and the British Empire itself.

To think that Scotland made that move without even consulting the folks in England seems a bit strange no ?

Letting him free is reasonable.

Not blowing up planes seems reasonable too no ?

In fairness to the white house, their first choice was to have him stay jailed in Scotland.

Though, why not just keep your foot to the throat if it's what you really want? This administration is good at pushing things, so I imagine that they were only half hearted with this matter.

The fact is US citizens were killed by this dirtbag and now he seems like a hero again to his cause.

I just don't understand how you could be compassionate, or favor compassion, when it comes to this guy.

The position of the administration was that they prefered a humanitarian release as opposed to him being jailed in Libya. They always opposed any kind of release from Scottish prison.

Obama said he was surprised and outraged if BP had lobbied the UK government for the release in exchange for an oil deal. Congress has requested the UK government testify into an investigation on it but they have refused to appear.

Why be pissed at our government about this?

Why would they not want him to be jailed in Libya though? I don't know why they would ever prefer his freedom rather than his confinement. In any circumstance.

The guy was on his second appeal which was essentially the fourth investigation of the matter and the chances are good that a "miscarriage of justice" was made in the initial conviction. Apparently there was evidence from the CIA that Iran could have actually ordered and carried out the attack. The guy was probably going to be released sooner or later anyway. This way at least put "the West" in a better light in the Arab world than having him win an appeal and come home as a hero who battled the West and won.

My only gripe with that argument is that the guy was seemingly at deaths door.

Could they have dragged it out until he died?

Of course he is still alive now, but at the time, that did not look like a possibility.

Plus, they can drag out appeals for years.

But that withstanding..

Good find on the story.
