Convicted Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff is dying of cancer, sources told the New York Post
Maybe that's why he decided to go down with the ship el-solo.

Good thing he isn't in prison in Scotland.

The galling thing about this whole Madoff mess is that if there had been even the slightest scrutiny here, Madoff would have been caught. Even he was shocked at how long he got away with it.
There were SEC investigators who saw something was very wrong, but they were silenced.

He would definitely get a hero's welcome in Grifterville.

By the way, prison officials are now saying the stories of Madoff having cancer are bullshit.
“While the N.Y. Post story is full of inaccuracies, and we can’t specifically address all of them, we can tell you that Bernie Madoff is not terminally ill, and has not been diagnosed with cancer,” Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman Traci Billingsley said in a statement.

And, yeah, me saying SEC officials who wanted to investigate Madoff were silenced is sort of Jezo-esque, but it is true that several SEC investigators who raised questions about Madoff's dealings found themselves getting the brush-off.

I wish I could tell you that Bernie fought the good fight, and the Sisters let him be. I wish I could tell you that - but prison is no fairy-tale world. He never said who did it, but we all knew. Things went on like that for awhile - prison life consists of routine, and then more routine. Every so often, Bernie would show up with fresh bruises. The Sisters kept at him - sometimes he was able to fight 'em off, sometimes not. And that's how it went for Bernie - that was his routine.

I don't know how much cred I really put into this... he's in a minimum security jail with other white collar crooks, isn't he?

No. I'm sure he's appealing to get moved, but he's in with some bad people.

Again, it's a medium security jail. Not PMITA prison. Most petty crooks who would be likely to shank and/or resort to violence don't end up in a federal minimum security prison. These are the same sources that said Madoff was dying from cancer, no doubt.
Notable inmates include:
* Bernard Madoff, 61727-054, former financier sentenced to 150 years for perpetrating a $65 billion Ponzi scheme.[4][5]
* Carmine Persico, 74666-158, Boss of the Colombo crime family.[6]
* Jonathan Pollard, 09185-016, civilian United States Navy intelligence analyst convicted of spying for Israel.[7]
* Omar Abdel-Rahman, 34892-054, Islamic terrorist nicknamed "The Blind Sheik"; masterminded 1993 World Trade Center bombing.[5]
* John Rigas, 53983-054, former CEO of Adelphia Communications Corporation convicted of bank, wire, and securities fraud. Rigas was accused of looting the corporation by concealing $2.3 billion in liabilities from corporate investors and of using corporation funds as personal funds.[5]
* Russell Eugene Weston, Jr, 22372-016, murdered Detective John Gibson and Officer Jacob Chestnut after entering the United States Capitol.[8]
Past notable inmates have included:
* Jim Bakker, televangelist imprisoned for accounting fraud.[7]
* John Hinckley, Jr., attempted assassin of President Ronald Reagan.[7]
* Richard J. Schneiderhan, former Massachusetts State Police Lieutenant convicted of obstruction of justice stemming from his relationship with the Winter Hill Gang.[9]
And before you bring up Hinckley, the terrorist Sheik, or Weston, I have no doubt that all of them were in the hospital wing of the prison - Hinckley and Weston were insane, Sheik was blind.
