Self-Conscious Swearing?

I've been getting less and less attracted to the idea of sticking swear words into every other sentence. I wonder if this is either a product of age or a rejection of my old self. Anyone else ever feel one way or the other?

My dad always hated swearing.

Not cause the words were bad, but because he believes it makes you sound stupid.
And it does. Rather than using a word that would more properly fit, you just say "shit" or something. It stunts your vocabulary.
