I've been listening to the old National Lampoon radio hour on CD. It was before my time, but that was amazing radio that not a lot of people remember. John Belushi, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, , Chevy Chase (ugh), Christopher Guest (the Dan Aykroyd of the show) , and Michael O'Donohue went on to bigger things. Did you listen to the show when it was on Heckler and do you have any recollections on the show (for instance, when was it on in New York ?) Thanks.

I know of it but I never heard it on the radio.
I did watch SCTV religiously, which I thought was funnier than SNL.

The peak of SCTV vs. the peak of SNL ( I think 76-78 after Chevy left and before coke and celebrity started getting to the show) is arguable either way, to me. SNL got bad for a while, so in that respect, SCTV was good for a longer span. Still, the 2 shows are somewhat hard to compare for obvious reasons (live Vs tape and the fact that SCTV was based on a premise , <the station>). Dave Thomas wrote a chapter on this in his SCTV book ( He's a pretty cocky guy). It's too bad Comedy Central doesn't rerun SCTV anymore.
