I searched but couldn't fine a thread.

I just watched the movie Away From Her. It starred Gordon Pinsent, Julie Christie as his wife who is in the early stages of alzheimers and Olympia Dukakis as the wife of a patient who Pinsent's wife becomes attached to in the care facility.
For me movies that are based in fact cause me to feel more sad then any fictional portrayal.
I also think alzheimers is one of the cruelest diseases ever. I think this movie affected me so much because my grandmother had alzheimers and I recognized some of the behaviors. At times she didn't know her own children (sons especially for some reason) but she knew my dad who was her son in law.
I would recommend it but be warned kleenex suggested.

Was that the one with the guy in the rest home that used to be the hockey (Jets?) announcer? If so - very good flick. I always get this confused with "The Notebook" - sort of similar stuff.

Yeah monk that is the one. I didn't realize the Notebook is a similar story, I might have to check it out.

I'll always mention Grave of the Fireflies in threads like this. Requiem for a Dream is pretty bad too. I'm still trying to figure this movie out but I think Synecdoche, New York is supposed to be very depressing.

This. The fact that a cartoon that is in another language can make me misty makes it the winner in my book. Incredibly sad movie.
