im still trying to wrap my head around this move. the pats create some space to sign wilfork to a new deal and possibly grab another QB, plus that pick is probably gonna be pretty high. but man, if i was seymour id be pissed

What the fuck do you mean, the Raiders are "retarded"? You obviously don't know shit about football, unlike me. My ass is in Canton. What the fuck have you done?
Here's why we did it. I can finally get rid of that dumb son of a bitch JaMarcus Russell. I mean, I know I said that he is a great player, get over it, blah blah blah, but I gotta admit, I was high as a fucking kite when I wrote that letter. I know I shouldn't drink when I take my "back medicine", but I do, and sometimes when I come out of it, I've fired a coach or signed a player or moved the team to Des Moines or some dumb shit like that.
But this is all me, baby. I'm only slightly mentally confused on this one. This guy Seymour is what we need. He's going to lead us to victory in the end of the game. I've seen the way he throws, and the way that he stays cool under pressure. He's one of the greatest quarterbacks...
Wait, he's not the quarterback?
Who is he?
Fuck.

It's a typical Raiders move. It's slightly better than when they signed Warren Sapp. (actually, on second thought, it's worse...all they gave up was money for Sapp...they're giving up a potential #1 overall pick for Seymour).
Seymour's still got a couple good years, but they're so far from being a good team, why would you risk giving up a potential top five pick and take on a huge contract? Al Davis is so delusional, he must think they can win this year.
By the way, the word I'm hearing is that the Eagles will deal A.J. Feeley to the Pats for a draft pick sometime int he next couple of weeks so they have a backup with some experience.

Seymour only has one year left on his contract, I believe.

I think he has this season, next season, and the Raiders could potentially franchise him if they wanted him for a third year. So they could get up to three years of value, but we know they're going to suck this year, so this is a wasted year...Seymour's not getting any younger, and the Raiders aren't getting much better...

he's 29, not exactly over-the-hill and it's a pick two years from now. don't teams routinely trade a current third round pick or so for a first rounder two years down the road? the present value of a future pick just isn't the same as a current year pick.

As well does Wilfork and I'd rather the Pats sign him.
It's a shocking move, but I believe in Belichick.

This could end up being a pretty genius move by the Raiders if there is no 2011 draft because of a lockout, which is about the way its heading

whats the official ruling on that if it happens? does the pick just vanish or is there compensation?

You gotta think the draft would go ahead, even with a lockout.
Mr. Davis is sleeping now, and is unavailable for comment. I'll ask him later.

It was a bad deal. Seymour is not going to make their horrible D that much better and there is no doubt they will need the pick in two years. I am not sure if the pick would have similar value to a 2nd or 3rd rounder. A first round pick in next years draft is worth a 2nd rounder now, I am not sure if teams hold that same once the season has started. Anyway the pick would be considered a 2nd rounder for value reasons.

Not to be a Nitpicking Ned, but does Shefter say "Oakland Patriots" in that video?
And I'm not trying to get banned by attacking another board member, but Mr. Davis I'm thinking you gave up a pretty high first round pick next year with this move. One that you could really, REALLY use. Dolt.

The Raiders have been so inept in the draft that any way to bring players in other than the draft might actually not be a bad thing for them.

I think you made this post logged into the wrong account.
Wouldn't it be weird if snoogans was really al davis and snoogans was his board character?

That's true...the Lions are such an awful franchise that even if they markedly improve from last season, that'll probably only translate to 2 or 3 wins tops.
I see the Raiders winning 4 or maybe 5 games.
